Unusable Weaponry

It occurred to me that in the customization ability of costumes, it's more than possible to get an 'Official' belt. Anyone familiar with the 'Official' belt knows quite well that, what it is, is simply a PD Officer belt.

That in mind and aside at the same time, I'm wondering if it would be 'overboard' to allow players to set their characters up with weapons on their costumes that don't have abilities associated with them. In other words, just having the 'look', if so desired.

This may be more work than it's worth, though, since the next thing attached to this is: "I'd also like to see emotes with this new costume ability!"

On the other hand, that may not be necessary, depending on how the existing emotes look with the held weapon (Which, quite honestly, would probably cover the 'needs' (wants) of emoters).

It just occurred to me a week or so ago that one of my characters would have carried a weapon around during an entire RP session, but because the Powersets didn't involve said weapons, it was an incapability. Since then, I started thinking about all the characters who would actually be able to use such a thing, and... almost passed out from concentrated thought of high numbers (Yes, thinking is a dangerous thing for me).

It's been bought up a few times before (sword scabbards and quivers of arrows being probably the most requested). The primary issue with those sort of items is simply making sure they look good with every body type and animation in the game. In particular quivers (like jetpacks, another common request) run into problems due to the fact that character's backs are not all in the same place so for some bodies they end up getting partially buried in the character's back. Scabbards run into similar issues where certain leg based animations can cause clipping as can characters with wide hips and armored tops.

A work around some people use for RP sessions is to get weapon based temp powers and use those.

Maybe you are unaware of this but every single character has access to both the pistol and the police baton that appear on the PD Officer Belt regardless of archetype, and power-sets. Players merely have to do what is required to get them.

The pistol is a temp power recipe, and the police baton is a day job rechargeble temp power.

Police Chief Accolade

Baton Baton Power: Melee Minor DMG (Smashing) Foe Stun

Your authority gained from working in both law enforcement and for the city government has earned you usage of a Baton. Foes struck in melee combat with this weapon will suffer minor damage, but each strike has a high chance of disorienting the target.

Additional uses of this power can be earned by logging out in either City Hall or a Police Station. Damage: Minor, Recharge: Very Fast

Revolver
See also: Temp Power: Revolver
Salvage required: Polycarbon, Boresight
Crafting price: 500 Inf
Damage inflicted: 130.21 Lethal at Level 50.
30 Uses

Oh i see now. I misread what he was asking for. My bad.

I've always had a problem with cosmetic weapons as character details, because it always bugs me that I can't use them. Champions Online gives you the ability to use holsters with weapons in them, so I picked a couple for my dual pistols girl there, and not only did it look really odd that she still had guns in the holster despite drawing a a pair, but that she had DIFFERENT ones than the ones she drew. I didn't check to see if they had empty holsters, but it looks WORSE to be running around with empty holsters when you're supposed to have guns in them.

Basically, if and when we get holsters, sheaths, scabbards, quivers and suchforth, I'd like to see them integrated into the weapons system to alter the same way weapons appear and disappear. I don't need to have a precise drawing animation, but if I hang my sword on a strap on my pack, I want to see my sword on my back when I'm not using it and I DO NOT want to see my sword on my back when it's in my hands.

That's the difference between an 'iffy' suggestion and a 'pie-in-the-sky' suggestion. And even then, your suggestion has its brickwalls too. How would a Katana user fit a Rikti sword in a scabbard? Or holsters that will fit a magnum and an uzi? With tons and tons of customization options, compromises must be made.

Personally, I'd love an option to have a big axe hanging from my back even if I never use it. Samurai often carried 3 swords but only used 1 (I guess they could use 2 as well). Want to pull off the walking armory look? Bandoliers, leg holsters, chest holsters and a big gun on your back. Yeah, you're not gonna use them but you can play like you are.
