Travel Power Customisation
Well, this definately sounds like something everyone would like. And I could see some of it like the basic fx changes happening eventually. But it might not happen for awhile since the devs are working on GR. But we don't have much info on what will be included in I18 and I19, so you never know... But I wouldn't count on it. Maybe someday though this could happen.
Things I hoped for: fire/lightning/'wind'/minimal fx versions of hasten, superspeed, hover, flight, teleport, and superjump. Fire would have flame eminating from feet for flight, fire from beneath feet for speed, fire shockwaves from jumps, and fire portals for teleport. Electric the same, but no 'jetfeet' for the flight, just an electric aura. Wind would we whitish whisps for power movement, and whisps encircling the character when not. Additionally, colors for all, a standing flight pose, and a 'powerslide' version of superspeed would be awesome.
extra: medicine pool: gem/spell healing, 'no object' healing
I agree with jetpacks, but I think/hope that would be a "back" costume element. (So that it wouldn't disappear) Since the jetboots already animate according to flight, a back option that does the same is no biggee.

Easier to implement suggestions are more likely to be accepted but I am with you with the jetpacks back piece, along with backpacks and other back related items. It really is an underused slot considering the possibilties.
At least with this option there is a semi permenant way to get it rather than being limited to the time you have until it runs out

Power Pool Cust was requested back when Power Cust was first released, and Power Pools were not included. Also asked about back at the con when Kinetic Melee/Elec control videos were shown.
Currently devs doen't have any time frame for PP Cust.
Jump - Jump pack option, a more 'Hancock' and 'incredible hulk' style super jump involving crouching first and leaving a crushed ground type graphic below when you jump and land, regular graphics such as bright, dark and element options, new animal style options possibly a kangeroo type or cat type. Also include ninja run style options. |
To be honest, I would love this as SJ is pretty much the only travel power I use in the game, but could you imagine the graphic work needed to pull off the crushed ground effect. It would totally depend on where you were standing and what kind of terrain you were standing on. I can't imagine the devs putting so much work into one thing.
But still, I totally agree with you.
Yes this is perfect. It might take some work, but it needs to be done!
/signed.
I vote for all Power Pool customization. But like Maniac Raid said, the devs probably won't do it.
Keep it simple! Better costume customization would suffice for me.
Rocket boots which animated/flared while actually jumping with Super Jump and Combat Jump would be excellent news.
Changing the animation on Super Speed from the glowing orb at the feet nonsense to something leaving a short trail of blurred translucent images of the runner would be great. A similar effect could be added to Hasten (making the hastened character blurred at times). Rocket boots that flared while moving with Super Speed would likewise be nice.
Flight already benefit from rocket boots and wings, but a small Sky Raiderish jet pack (that activates with Fly or Hover) would be a very cool costume addition.
I vote for all Power Pool customization. But like Maniac Raid said, the devs probably won't do it.

Some past threads in the last year:
Thread 1
Thread 2
There are more threads also, but didn't post.
The second one even states probably not before GR. So they know and we can hope to see one day.
I don't consider that correct. BABs (and the devs) obviously know about customization of the other powers in the powers pools, epics/patrons, and EATs.

The reason I put as a power and not a costume piece wasnt because it isnt physically possible, its just because its much easier to do considering we already have it in game with the temp power version.

Besides, temporary power jet packs have HORRIBLE positioning. They don't account for model dimensions at all, meaning they hover off of your back if you're tiny and sink into your shoulder blades if you're huge. And it's horribly ugly. This is not a solution. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's a bug that needs to be re-fixed if and when they institute proper back details. And even then, having tempermanent jet packs is rather a few steps worse than having PERMANENT jet packs.
That said, I agree with you on the notion of power pool customization. It's something BABs has said he's looking into (or at least alluded to it) and travel powers would and should receive very high priority. However, when you make suggestions for customization, keep one thing in mind: You CANNOT change the functionality of the powers. So a Super Jump where you crouch before you leap is out of the question, as it would have to delay your jump, and customization can't and shouldn't do that.
Beyond that, different animations for flying, jumping and running are a must, as are different effects for them. Fire teleportation, ice flight and "blur" super speed are just some of the MANY effects we could have, and I certainly hope they jam in as many of those as they can think of.

I agree in general, but if things were really that bad, then why would they be selling 30 days of use for one if it was all that bad. Anyway. I think they can pull it off. It will take work, and it is up to them in the end if they really can or can not, and I think we should leave it at that.
|
I'd rather not vouch for a patchwork workaround because whenever one of these gets implemented, the case is then closed and isn't revisited for years. If they do decide to mess with jet packs, we really want them to go the extra mile if just because of that.

Well surely if they do bring in the jetpacks as an option for pool customisation it would be common sense to make sure they look right on the charecters?
The reason I mentioned the temp power was because its already got the models in game and wouldnt require as much work to bring in, repositioning and scaling is the hardest part of it.
As for the crushed ground effect I mentioned, you already get similar style effects with powers like foot stomp in game, its a case of pasting a black crushed type graphic over the ground where your standing, not actually changing the terrain. As for animation time with it, I see where your going with that and yes it would be an issue but giving players the OPTION to choose whether they want to wait those extra seconds/milliseconds for a better feel to the charecter wouldnt be a bad thing?
Its not going to be for everyone sure, but not every power in game is. The have a great system with the alternate animations its about time they used more of it. It really means that you arent stuck in the same rut as every other charecter of the same type.
The point of quandry with 'costumized' travel powers is this:'Rapter' and 'Jet' packs basically have built-in 'weapons' to their powers, for all intents and purposes. The travel power pools do not. I'm wondering if this is as simple as asking for a flamethrower on fire blast powers because assault rifle can use a gun.
I would like to suggest travel power customisation be added to the game, if possible along with epic power customisation once its unlocked.
With the suggestion for travel power customising, I would also like to add the possibility of alternate animations for each of them to be selectable. Since these powers are used on every charecter, it would benefit everyone.
Options for this would be things like listed below:
Fly - Jetpack options, different poses instead of using the /emote versions and different fx with it in the trail, such as flames, dark and bright as normal powers get as well as new options such as turning into a bird or phoenix.
Super Speed - Roller blades style option with optional rockets on them, an fx off option, regular fx options such as bright and dark as well as element based ones, and new ones such as cheetah style animal changes. 'Feral' running emotes such as an all fours run where your charecter is hunched over. Also include ninja run style options.
Teleport - A wristpad activation style emote before teleport option, a 'wormhole' style animation where the player is sucked in, the regular bright and dark options as well as element based ones.
I could list several comic book heroes that dont fit in with conventional travelling methods already offered but the list would be endless.
