Silly little Recharge and Cast/Animation Time Question...

I just want to make sure I'm considering this properly, and I figured the Scrapper forum might yield the fastest and surest answer about these particular matters. My understanding is as follows:

Powers do not begin recharging until after their activation (or cast, if you prefer - I believe the terms are synonomous in this context) time is over. Thus, if you can get the recharge time of the power to be equal to or less than the animation time of the power, it will be recharged by the time (or before) the power has finished going off.

Is that more or less correct?

Recharge begins once the animation has finished, so no matter what you can't string the same attack over and over without a pause between each activation.

Hail of Bullets is an exception

Also if I remember correctly from a couple days ago. There is actually a lag between activation time that is displayed and the actual time it takes... Or something like that. (its very convoluted)

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

I'm going to try to simplify, hopefully without badly misstating everything.
  • Sever ticks are every 0.132 seconds.
  • The previous power you activated must be flagged complete on a server tick.
  • The next power can only activate on the NEXT server tick.

As a result of these facts, there is an irreducible delay BETWEEN powers. Even though your previous power has finished activating, the server doesn't realize it until the next server tick. So you're basically rounding your activation time up to the next server tick. And then you have to wait one MORE server tick before the new power fires. So the delay varies between 0.132 and 0.264 seconds, the duration of which depends on the activation time of the first of the two powers. When doing calculations that require accounting for this delay, such as DPS calculations or calculations of required recharge, we typically add this delay to the activation time of the power, and call this Arcanatime. So:
Arcanatime = (roundup(ActivationTime/0.132)+1)*0.132

That makes more sense than what Arcana said

Ty for the clear up Werner. =)

In theory yes. In practice since nearly all rooted animations are less than 0.3 seconds longer than their power's cast time, that's unlikely.

Hail of Bullets roots for 4.37 seconds and has been set to zero cast time for certain technical reasons. But its impossible to get its recharge time down from 120 seconds to less than 4.37 seconds. I am currently unaware of a power that could actually recharge fast enough to be castable immediately after its animation concluded that didn't have zero recharge time to begin with (i.e. travel toggles and things like combat jumping).

There really isn't a server tick that is 0.132 seconds long: its really the weird interaction between two different ticks (ticking at about 30/sec and 8/sec) that create that illusion. But its a little white lie that will work for the purposes of doing ArcanaTime calculations.

Ah, my addled brain was imagining them (the casting and animation) going off one after the other rather than simultaneously. In retrospect, that makes absolutely no sense. Thankee all for slapping my brain around.
