Power Enhancement

The idea here is, when you reach a level to select a new power - why bother? You could instead apply a "permanent enhancement" to an already existing power at the cost of choosing a new one.

The permanent enhancement will permanently enhance one specific attribute of a power by a value relative to a +0 SO. For example, if I had chosen Thunder Kick at level 4, and I was at level 6, I could choose to enhance the accuracy or damage of Thunder Kick by 33% instead of taking a new power like Focus Chi or Storm Kick. This 33% enhancement would be cumulative with "real" enhancements (i.e. 33% enhancement + one +0 SO = 66% enhancement), not be affected by Enhancement Diversification and would not use any existing or future enhancement slots. There would be a cap on how much you can enhance a single power to prevent abuse.

This would obviously need to have lots of time spent on balancing it out - and it may pose a problem in PVP, so while it is not 100% plausible, it is still a good idea to consider.

I don't think it's feasible, but I don't dislike the concept. A character could be really good at one thing but part of the balance is he is suffering in other areas.

As Forbin said it's a neat idea but it's something that really needs to be built into the powers system from the get go. Trying to put it in at this point would be horrendous in terms of keeping it balanced.

I actually genuinely enjoy this idea. Sometimes I don't WANT to take pool powers or epic pools. I want my character to have only their primary and secondary powersets. This gives a nice alternative to picking pools and grants the bonus of being able to slot powers more fully. It could also put a slow down on some of the "Stamina is needed!" arguing, as players could just trade in their pools for end reduction.

The downside to this is I can see people deliberately turning Emp's into the hated Healorz at the sacrifice of the better buff powers.

Edit: And making SB even more offensive. You know there will be outrage over that.

Wasn't something kind of like this part of alpha? Where you had some origins that got a lot of powers, but had weaker powers, and some had few powers to choose from, but the few powers they had were very strong?

If they had trouble balancing that back then, it definitely might still be a problem now. And how do you weigh each skipping of a power? Sometimes, you're just missing out on another attack, but for something like a Defender or a Controller, where you might be missing out on a lot of versatility, would they be buffed the same amount as the Scrapper, for instance?

As far as I know, SB only takes Range, Recharge and Endred. That's the only things that would be possible to enhance.

It also takes run speed and endurance modification. Only the first could be considered "offensive". (Although I don't think any buff could technically count as "offensive". Maybe the person doing the buffing, but not the buff itself.)

You've forgotten Increase Attack Rate, and Enhance Running Speed.

The one people complain about the most is the increase to running speed.

Now I'm not trying to derail your thread by starting that old argument again (I actually like the idea), just pointing out that if someone chose that power to enhance using your suggestion it will upset the crowd that hates SB.

"Increase Attack Rate" is recharge.

meant Reduce Endurance Cost and Enhance Endurance Modification.

In any case you only listed 3 of the 5 powers that SB can be slotted with, and the one that people complain about on the forums is the Enhanced Running Speed
