Very simply question, but I've no idea if there is any way to answer it short of actual in-game testing.

What I wanna know is, anyone has any idea how much damage values for Recluse's attacks in the STF? More specifically speaking, toon in question has about 23% resist to S/L and 0% to Nrg damage. It's a Tank if that makes any difference.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Guess I'll take a whack at it with his best attack

His strongest attack is Energy Smash, which is scale 1.96 smashing damage.

Level 54 melee damage mod for AVs is approximately 949.068

949.068 x 1.96 = 1860.17328

that times the Purple Patch of 1.44 for being 4 levels above you(assuming you're level 50) brings that to:

1860.17328 x 1.44 = 2678.6495232 ..let's just round that to 2678.65


If you include the red tower, that adds 105% damage bonus, so..

2678.65 x 2.05 = 5491.2325 smashing damage

now then...assuming 23% smashing resistance, that means you will take..

5491.2325 x 0.77 = ~4228.25 total damage--Ouch

Of course, even with all that damage it wont matter if he cant hit you, so bring a truckload of purple and green inspirations, and possibly some medium-large orange ones

That is of course if you're planning to tank him and not just asking out of curiousity.

Hope that was the sort of thing you were looking for

I can do the rest of his attacks as well if you really want all of them

Actually..I think those numbers are a bit off. Because according to the "base" damage of 5491.2325, if you put in a Stone or Invul Tank with capped resistance at 90%, that would yield damage of about 2890. Which means they can't survive it unless they have used Earth Embrace/ Dull Pain before hand...which isn't true. So, I'm led to believe those numbers are a bit higher than they actually are in-game.

Resistance is not like [for instance] Recharge. 90% Res means that a 5491 point attack does 549 points of damage. 10% gets through.

No. 90% resistance stops 90% of the damage.
This is why AV's who have resistance of 100% and higher are bad.

Thanks for doubting me actually, after rechecking my post I noticed I was indeed slightly off.

It's 5491.2325 x 0.77 = ~4228.25

Not 5491.2325 /1.23 = ~4464.416 for damage resistance calculations.

As you can see for practical purposes his Energy Smash will one-shot code a tanker with 23% resistance... if it hits you'll be left with 1 hit point and I hope you can eat some greens in a hurry. Your best bet is to bump your defense to 75% (until the Blue tower dies) and eat some orange candy to get your resistance above 60%.

Once the Red tower dies it becomes a lot easier since that drastically cuts his damage output. He still hits like a truck, just not like an 18 wheeler anymore.

If I'm tanking him with CMA, I'll have my defense at 75% (purple pills, 45% naturally) until the blue tower dies and I'll always have 90% S/L resist and ~34% E/N. Until the red tower dies I keep one or two medium/large oranges active to get my E/N into the 50-70% range. If he connects with Energy Smash he'll take me down by approximately 60%... if he connects twice in a row he can drop me. That's why I keep a couple of big greens in my tray and Dull Pain ready to fire.

Note that these are slightly approximated, any damage calculations you do may end up being off by 0.01 or so


Melee Damage Mod Level 53: 930.3245
Melee Damage Mod Level 54: 949.068

Ranged Damage Mod Level 53: 558.1955
Ranged Damage Mod Level 54: 569.4367


Also, there is no such thing as an "AoE Modifier"

With few exceptions, Targetted AoEs use ranged mods, and PBAoEs use melee mods.

2 Examples from the STF:

Lord Recluse's Spider Strike - PBAoE - 10 foot radius

1.64 Smashing damage

Level 53 -- 930.3245 x 1.64 = 1525.73218 x 1.33 = ~2029.22

Level 54 -- 949.068 x 1.64 = 1556.47152 x 1.44 = ~2241.32

And Ghost Widow's Soul Storm - Targetted AoE - 80 foot range - 10 foot radius

10 ticks of 0.5 Negative Energy

Level 53 -- 558.1955 x 0.5 = 279.09775 x 1.33 = ~371.20 (x10 = ~3712 total damage)

Level 54 -- 569.4367 x 0.5 = 284.71835 x 1.44 = ~409.99 (x10 = ~4099.9 total damage)
