Though it seems you've already talked it out with yourself, fire/wp is a great combo. WP is easy street leveling and fire melee does great damage.
/gignore @username is the best feature of this game. It's also probably the least used feature.

Willpower stands up on its' own, and doesn't do anything gimmicky that might mess up whatever your primary wants to do. Fire/WP will do just fine.

I am wanting to try fire melee since it is incredibly damaging, and I would like to go with willpower also. Does WP need something with KD in it to stay alive? It seems everyone goes with SS or sometimes DM. I don't think I have ever seen fire/wp? Will I be losing a lot going fire melee?
edit: Oh, well, now that I think about it, claws/wp seems VERY popular and claws has no KD, so I suppose fire would not be much different! (Well, besides SW which is a cone and would probably get you killed if not used properly lol)
