Return of sound loop bug
Haven't noticed this happening recently - have had it intermittently over the past few years but the last time it was a major issue was about 4 years ago - eventually tracked it down to my mouse driver! - Presumably it was sharing some resource with the sound driver (or possibly was leaking memory like the Zig's security systems).
So you may want to check that your drivers are all up to date - not just the obvious ones - although I would suggest starting with the sound and MB drivers.

I've tried different characters to see if it was caused by the sounds of the powers without success.
This has just started happening to me today. And I've been playing almost everyday since I17 was installed without issues. And for me the game completely locks up and I have to do a hard power down (Windows 7 x64, 4 gigs of memory, Quad-SLI Geforce 9800 GX2).

For what it's worth, the "sound loop bug" is frequently unrelated to sounds. Anytime the game stops updating the sound card with new data, it will just loop the last data it had over and over.
So while it might be sound-related, odds are that the app just crashed, the sound card survived the impact, and is still playing the last thing it was told to.

Anyway, update, earlier today I played for 2 hours or so with a different character, did a Manti TF with no crashes at all. Going to play for a bit tonight and see if I get any. Hopefully whatever it was is gone.
That sound loop bug from years back has returned to my computer when I got i17. It is infrequent but very distracting when it happens. Otherwise the game sounds on my computer is perfect. It lasts a few seconds and thank goodness doesn't crash the game. I have an Intel duo e6700, and built in audio (realtek drivers)on my eVGA 680 motherboard (no audio-card).
I'm curious if anyone else has started getting this.
