Exp on EB and Bosses?

Last night i was on a council mission, level 20

I had rested exp, for this, but a level 20 council boss gave me 700 exp.

Shortly after, with rested EXP, someone told me to try out a mission in AE, that exemplared me to level 1 and had Elite Bosses in them, known as "The Freak"...im guessing this is normally a monster....but i got only 600 exp for it, rested.

Regardless of what it was, Elite Bosses should clearly give more exp than those bosses....but it actually gave less, not even the same amount.

This is wildly confusing. Even with the AE mission 1.0 exp modifier.

This was all done solo.

Could someone enlighten me?

Well, going by one of the recent MA updates I would assume it's because the EB didn't have the full set of powers it should have had, meaning a loss of XP.

While this specific instance is understandable, EBs are notorious for not giving out xp, particularly those down graded from AVs. Why should an enemy that hits as hard as an AV, often has debuffs designed to challenge teams, as well as significant buffs (tier 9s, PToD) that make soloing them for some ATs nearly impossible, give boss level xp? Why do I get the same experience from Tyrant's EB version as I get from a Destroyer in the same mission? The Destroyer is easier to kill and far less likely to kill me than Tyrant. Downgraded AVs are still very challenging, and as such should give higher rewards. Not AV level, but more than just boss. Heck, even their class name should say something to that extent: *Elite* Boss. If they are to be elite, then their rewards should be elite as well.

Patrol XP is not used in AE missions, you simply earn normal XP.

An equal in all ways critter in the AE will earn you 75% XP of what it would outside the AE.

Thus, if you have patrol XP, fighting something in the AE earns you 1/2 the XP it would outside the AE.

In addition, if there were any allies 'hostage' or otherwise on the map, this would have further reduced your XP. Also, the EB at level 1 likely had few powers, thus his XP was probably also reduced by the custom critter experience.

The XP rules for the AE have been changing and are scheduled to still change soon. Yes, it's confusing, but if you're concerned about experience gains, the AE is generally your 'weaker' source.

THe patrol exp not taking effect in AE makes sense. thats probably why i was confused

It was a monster, to begin with. i wasnt aware you could make custom monsters.

If you cant, then power selection wouldnt be a problem in affecting the exp, i dont think...

EDIT:: Also, i can make a level 1 broadsword and give him disembowel, and he will hit me with it. so power selection isnt limited by level, appearntly.

Keep in mind the "ally" issue Necrotron mentioned. It's not just allies. It includes destructible object, hostages and literally anything that will not try to kill you. As long as they exist in the mission, each one reduces your experience.
