When to start slotting sets?
"Hmm, I guess I'm not as omniscient as I thought" -Gavin Runeblade.
I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
I usually start around level 30. I can slot the highest level of recipes that top out at 30, and I can start slotting recipes that drop in the 30-50 range (technically I guess I can do both of these at 27). You're also starting to get many more slots per level, each of which comes with a possible added bonus.

As I have always disliked the "Aww man, my eh just turned yellow" moments, I like very much that I can slot two and three parters in my low 20s and never touch them again. So this is where I invest most of my kitting energies until the char closes in on 50 (at which point I'll decide if I care about taking them to the "next level").
Every ten levels or so, I'll browse for replacements. I'm not picky about the levels or the set bonuses, so I can usually find something. And, of course, I always have four or five different toons going; if I hit an enhancement wall on one due to either recipe or salvage unavailability, I just put in my bids and go play something else...
Open the pod bay doors, Hal.
Sets at 27+ (L30s), generic IOs at 12, for me. I tend to know exactly what sets I want for any given character, by the time I finish creating them. So I spend the time from 1 to 27 stockpiling the sets I'm looking for and use the salvage stashed in the base to make it along the way. I also stockpile recipes for sets I use frequently (Thunderstrike for ranged characters, Crushing Impact for melee) so I usually have several on hand already.

Also, if I've played an AT before (and kinda know what to do), I'll start slotting in the 30-35 region. Especially if it is defense-oriented.
Ooh, a sarcasm detector. Oh, that's a *real* useful invention. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...t-sarcasm.html
i go for lvl 25. Generally theres about a 2% difference than a lvl 35 and the cost to create and salvage costs are alot lower. If theres no difference in salvage, about 30 is what i slot.
uniques from merits, slide that bar down and get the lowest available (no brainer but forgotten alot)
I sell purples if i get them, i also sell lotg because people pay stupid amounts for them regardless of level....to give you an idea of what kind of player i am.
