AUTO REPLY Chat hidden Message

I have raised this as a bug and with support who have directed me to this forum stating this is a problem with the Chat system the development team are aware of

This issue seems to be occurring intermittently since the Issue 17 roll-out. I have never had my chars on hide from tells. However I tried doing so, saving then unhiding and saving and the issue still appears to occur. It happens when I message other users. When I ask they are unaware that this message is appearing on their tells. A friend deleted my global because they thought I was being strange and hiding. That is rather annoying because I was not. I also find it unacceptable because it's sending an
incorrect message to people I am trying to talk to. I have also had users feel that I am avoiding the because this message appears when they send me tells. I never have had my tells set to hide and this is extremely annoying. I then spoke to a friend on my global. After a couple of message suddenly this message appears. It seems fine for a while and then occurs. It seems to behave this way whilst messaging my global friends. It has happened on several occasions during conversations with different users and they report my tells also doing this. It also appears to happen for some users not on my global list. I have looked at the forums and found mention of an old Hide bug which
does this but the fix does not appear to work. Please could someone respond with a comment and a possible ETA for a fix

this is not a bug, its a QoL feature that was added so that it auto responded that way when your chat was actually hidden (ie when on enhancement screen, tailor, ID, leveling, respec, ect)

i personally like this feature, i rather it say that their chat was hidden than me thinking that the person i was talking to was ignoring me

It's happening anywhere anytime. Random. It's happening when I have normal conversations with people. Im aware of it occurring whilst respecing or in th tailor...or on Arena but that's not what I mean. This is happening anytime with all users. And it's not just messages they send me that renders this message. The message occurred when I send other users tells indicating they are supposedly on hide when they are not

If you have anything on top of your screen - a bio info window, your recipes window, the market window, AE window... this message will happen. It's definitely not WAI, though it's probably WAD, which is a different thing entirely. It *should* be only happening when you can't actually see the chat window.

This bug hit me last night while I had my chat up in base edit mode. In hindsight, I realize I missed an opportunity to test it further by popping out of edit mode, sorry.

Here's what happened with me.

1. I'd send a tell, which the other person would see & respond to.
2. I'd be able to see their response, which was immediately followed by a second auto-response saying they were hidden.
3. I asked if they were hidden, they said no, they were soloing a mission.
4. I asked if they were getting double responses from me, they said no.
5. The double responses from them continued through the rest of the conversation.

This happens to me and my friends on a regular basis, when we aren't hidden and can see each other's chat. When I am in editor and sending a tell, sometimes the "hidden chat" message not only pops up, but it keeps popping up over and over until I am put on a time out for 2 minutes, as the game reads me as spamming. UGH!

Spending a lot of time in the base editor it would always pop up with the away once and only once pre I17. Now it goes back and forth in an endless loop .

Two recreate, You and a friend both go into base editor. Send a tell...and watch the madness ensue

This is happening to me with just normal conversions. I am not using Base editor, respecs, WW, tailor or anything else

It's rather annoying as CoH is a social environment and issues like this mislead other users into thinking i am HIDING when I am not.

Support's response was to look at this post (which I originated)

"I got kicked off a team 2 days ago for this because I couldn't reply that I was OMW to the mission, all because of this goofy AUTO REPLY bullcrap....lol "

Ok, that sucks sewer water...I like the idea behind the reasoning for it. When I am in the midst of buying enhances or working on a costume, this lets the sender know that I am busy. I think the most important thing is that everyone KNOW why that message pops up. Perhaps a small addition to the 'afk' could be made, such as 'Player busy' so senders will know what's going on, and they are not being ignored.
