Problems installing the game in the EU to play US
Ok, I have tried NCSoft's website, the City of Heroes website, and even the link in this forum to the EU downloader (which worked but only gave me the EU client). Where can I find an actual working US client download? All I seem to get is an empty file that is about 300 kbs when I download.
Please help, I am getting to a very frustrated point now.

To make the EU client connect to the US servers :
1) Go to the folder you installed City of heroes in (usually c:\Program Files\City of Heroes)
2) Hold down Control and click and drag the CohUpdater.eu.exe file to make a copy of it.*
3) Rename the copy CoHUpdater.exe
4) Make a Desktop shortcut; Right-click and drag that CoHUpdater.exe file to the desktop, then release. A wee menu should pop-up asking if you want to Move, Copy or Create a Shortcut. Pick "Create a shortcut"
5) Rename the Shortcut to City of Heroes or City of Heroes US or whatever you like and double click it to start.
I tried what you said, but now I am getting an error that states:
"Error opening file C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes/CohUpdater.exe
You may be out of disk space or you may be trying to install to a location where you have insufficient permissions"
Sigh...another issue...
Edited:
Ok i've been playing with it a little longer, and now I got it to load but it is just cycling "connecting 1, connection 2...etc"
Any more help will be appreciated

I ran into this as well. The UAC is playing silly buggers with CoH (something the developers should really sort, any other game I play doesn't have this trouble).
Try moving the install folder from it's current location to c:\City of Heroes\
Update the shortcut on the desktop to point at the new location and try it again.
Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant
This looks to be the problem - that last slash should be a backslash \ not a forward slash /
|
It's not the problem here though, the main problem is that CoH installation is a big mess and doesn't play nicely with the UAC.

To prove it, try this:
Start > Run > "C:\Program Files\/\City of Heroes/CohUpdater.exe"
Even though the slashes are all crazy, the game still opens just fine.
Same goes for Internet explorer or Firefox (usually). You can put the slashes in either direction and it'll fix it on it's own.
To the OP:
I believe the problem here can be solved by actually MOVING the CohUpdater.exe file to the desktop instead of using a shortcut to it. During installation, it will try to create or overwrite CohUpdater.exe inside the folder, but it'll tell you it has insufficient permissions if it's already in use. Running it from the desktop usually ensures there wont be any permission problems in the folder.
Also good I believe to make sure it's running as Administrator.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

Thanks for everyone's help!
Hey all, I recently came back to the game and I have had a nightmare of a time actually playing. I live in Spain, but my account, everything is US based. I tried downloading the client via NCsoft account management, and it has...issues...after much going back and forth through the website I found a temporary fix that allowed me to download and install the game client, however it seems to have problems with patches, and the patch a day ago made CoH stop running again on my machine. Now my newest problem is I uninstalled everything, and have tried again, but the link I used before:
http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...i=&p_topview=1
Is no longer working for me as well. Frustrated with NCSoft's response time and help, I thought I'd try my luck on the forums here and see if anyone else went through this and may have some tips.
Thanks!
Vince
