I Just do not Understand. Pls Help

Hiya. Started running this game the past week, and it has been great.

I upload today's patch and I cannot run the game without getting disconnected every five minutes.

Yes, I have updated the driver (it is up to date). Also, I am running in safe mode.

It makes me lag the last minute. I try to sync for that time period to no avail. Then it gives me a black screen, then a white screen, then a black screen again.

I really don't know what is going on.

I am running on a 32 bit Toshiba Satellite. Duel core processor, and have not had any trouble running in safe mode until today.

Any insight is Greatly appreciated.

Check out these threads:

Then post the results of these two programs:

  • CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
  • HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

Okay, I'm guessing that you are running an Intel Integrated graphics chip in this notebook?

A patch for running the game on Intel Integrated graphics was included in the patch today, but as I understand it, very few Intel Integrated users tested out that patch on the test servers, and the developers did not have enough hardware feedback:

Also: final thing. I get the feeling that English is not your native language. If you can, post in your native language as well. Chances are there is somebody else on the forums who might speak your native language and be better equipped to translate or communicate.

Edit: yep: Video Device Name: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family. That would be a either a GL4x or a GM4x chip: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm45/

My suspicion is that the lack of feedback from Intel users meant this chipset's support was knocked out.

I am attempting to update the graphics driver directly from the Toshiba website. :\ I really hope this works.

From Intel, there was nothing else I could do.

You should also go here: http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...p?p_faqid=4654

and file a bug report for this problem.

I have already sent a report for this. The game still crashed after 15 minutes after also (really) updating the driver.

When the game was crashing, there was an option to press "yes" or "no" to submit information to the company. Of course, I pressed yes, but it still crashed 3 seconds later.

Have no idea what else to do.

When the game crashed upon further inspection, the CPU usage was at 7%, but the memory was at 90%. You may brush this off as a memory issue, but the usual usage was at 40%. Looks like some programming missed me. :P

I try to!

What's sad is that only about 10% actually comply. And even sadder, those that do comply usually are helped. And even sadder still, those who fight me questioning why we need all that information. Now, I can understanding wanting to know why all that info is helpful, but to come to the boards seeking help and then fighting about cooperating with that help is astounding.

The real props goes to Zloth for developing the CohHelper. It pulls all the relevant dxdiag info, plus CoH registry info into one place. The HijackThis is to check for viruses and conflicts with other programs running on the computer.

I always suggest that after a patch/updat DEFRAG. I use Defraggler and can see which files are worse, and they are the CoH files. Sounds simple, but sure has worked for me.

I followed the link from je_saist and was able to find some pretty recent drivers for your chip on Intel's site.

This link I think will get you to them more directly: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...Chipset+Family

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

It would be nice if this could work for the system. With it being a Toshiba Satellite laptop, the generic Intel drivers don't validate, and don't install. From Intel's site:

Quote:
However, computer original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to the software or software packaging they provide. To avoid any potential installation incompatibilities on your OEM system, Intel recommends that you check with your OEM and use the software provided by your system manufacturer.
Toshiba's latest driver is from July 08.

I am having the same issue, with the same system and Intel graphics cards. A lot of people say that we need to update our drivers but a lot of drivers are for windows seven, and for us that still use vista, we cannot use windows seven drivers. So we are out of luck until somebody finds a soulution

Well there is a workaround that may get the job done: http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-029635.htm

Most of the time, Vista drivers and Win7 drivers are actually interchangeable. If you see the link I posted a bit above, it will let you select your specific OS and get what you need.

This is often the case with Mobile drivers. Both Nvidia and ATi offer limited support for laptops running WinNT6: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...b_win7-32.aspx :: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce...9.48_beta.html

As far as I'm aware, there's no Mobility Modder equivalent for the Intel Graphics Accelerator platform...

That might not mean you are out of luck entirely.

In theory, you should be able to use the Windows Device Manager to force install a later driver.

The intel executable file extracts (under WinNT6) to C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Temp

In my case, I got the folders: pft80D8~tmp / pft1BDF~tmp / pft2ED2~tmp

The easiest way to get the right folder is to sort the Temp folder by date-modified:

Launch the Intel driver installer and wait for the this system does not meet the requirements pop-up

Copy the temp file folder to a permanent folder (I went with C:\Intel)

Close the pop-up out.

Now you should be able to use the Device Manager to force install the extracted driver file.

I do need to stress: this may or may not work for your platform... and could actually bork your system over.

***

XHacker: Win7 is Win Vista. Same operating system: WinNT6.

I think you meant to type: Windows Xp. Windows Xp and WinNT6 do not share the same driver structure.

Thats actually not correct, if you got to the manufacture's website(mine happens to be Toshiba) they say that it is not reccommened to update drivers of different operating systems, with other drivers that were not preinstalled on your laptop. They even reccommend not to install windows seven drivers, to a windows vista laptop. Personally this may fix my problem but I am not going to do something that is not reccomended by my manufacture's since it may potiental break my system

well, just about anything you do could break your system.

One of the factors that is not often addressed in mobility setups is said sort of plainly on the AMD / ATi page:

Quote:
This is to protect against the installing of drivers that may disable features or functionality provided by the system manufacturer.
Many vendors will link hot buttons or function key assignments to the graphics driver input settings, so that you can do things like adjust the brightness of the display. These advanced features may, or may not function with the reference driver provided by the manufacturer.

Now, I'm not entirely familiar with what Toshiba does with their drivers, I don't know if they make any specific modifications, but maybe this will help explain why they say "don't change the drivers."

Well sometimes to get what you want, you have to bend the rules as it were. One of my biggest issues with manufacturers is this sort of idiocy because at some point soon after they stop selling a given device, they effectively stop supporting it. This is why there are no current drivers for the laptop in question. It's not that Toshiba couldn't keep updating them, it's simply that they see no reason to. There's no money in it, so they don't care any more. Anyways, just because the latest drivers aren't 'supported' by Toshiba doesn't in any way automatically mean they won't work. And *if* by some chance you do have issues, you should always be able to go back to the 'latest' ones from them.

Well personally I rather not break my computer in order to play this game. The reason why it is better to get a driver from your manufacture rather then the actually company is that many times they modfiy the drivers to better fit your system. Getting a generic update from a company such as Intel can break your system, and doing so will void the warrinety on the computer, leaving you out of luck. And yes anything will break your system, if you don't know what you are doing.

If you are willing to risk potentially borking your system for the sake of better compatibility, this is the best route. While working with the OP on her issue, we updated the sound drivers, and had to force-update the video components, similar to the method of the above link. The Intel driver CAN work for it. She now no longer has to run in safe-mode just to play, and has had ZERO crashes since defragging/updating. I hope others running with these laptops can get their issues solved.
