Just a few thoughts on DS/Pain so far.
I find suppress pain to be absolutely invaluable. Slot it with 3 heal SO/IOs. It doesn't really need any end redux, it's already a really cheap toggle. With 3 heal SOs I find it means I have to heal my pets far less often, and that if I tankermind, I actually regen faster than damage can get through bodyguard mode, most of the time.
I think I have Suppress Pain 2 slotted right now and I really cannot tell much of a difference. I've fought groups with the toggle turned off and I did not see a difference. However, I'll take another look and 3 slot it and see if it seems better.
Stand next to your minions with it on after a fight and you'll definitely see a difference in how fast they regen.
It is sometimes hard to see, but it's definitely useful. Not sure if your familiar with Regen, but a fully slotted Integration gives about 250% regen, fully slotted fast healing give 146% or so, combined thats around 400% regen. Suppress Pain, when fully slotted gives about 390% regen, so almost as much regen as in the regen defensive set. So it's definitely worth picking up.

This reminds me... I need to dual box some /pains for truly sick regen #s.

Take suppress pain (/facepalm).
If you like wand then you should take Corruption as your whip attack it does the same damage as lash but at range.

And to the thread:
What is the concensus on the difference between shared pain and soothe. I find that the -heal on shared pain doesn't really matter much, and it's got a much bigger heal built in. Not so terribly important on the pets, but great on teams. Is soothe really better?

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
Suppress Pain is THE reason to play /pain for me. It is an awesome power and should not be underrated.

Put the two together and I'm in the thick of battle with my demons at my side and a full attack chain of whip attacks slaughtering all that stands before me.
And then, of course, there's the whole buff the Demon Prince with Hell on Earth and Painbringer and watch the doom fly.
Be well, people of CoH.
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I've thought about it and modified my build a bit according to some advice here and from posts I've done in the forum. Here is my current build. It's still a work in progress but I picked up 2 whip attacks and Suppress Pain. I had Suppress Pain initially but only had it one socketed and did see much help. After three socketing Suppress Pain I'm beginning to see it help more so I'm willing to give it a go. Anyway.... here is a current version of my build. I'm currently out of town on a job site for a project so I'll have a bit of time to work on my build while at the Hotel.

Just a few notes about the DS/Pain build in general.
1) If you have the 33 month Vet Reward do not overlook the Blackwand. It's very useful from level one on up and it looks very sweet.
2) I picked up Suppress Pain and I'm finding it lacking. I may be slotting it incorrectly with just a single heal SO but so far I really don't care for this. I will be swapping it out when I redo my build.
3) I picked up Lash early on and at the time thought about picking up a few more Whip attacks, but frankly when youre playing on 0/3 time management gets a bit tight between attacking and healing my pets. I will most likely just end up with one Whip attack and my Blackwand for my attacks. Besides the Blackwand does not take a power-slot.
4) I initially took Nullify Pain and Sooth. Nullify Pain is very good but I think I will swap Sooth out for Share Pain instead so I get a bigger heal.
5) I took Hell on Earth as well and this is one very nice power. I double slotted it with SO attack rates so that it's up more often. In my final build I'm thinking about picking up Hasten so I may be reslotting HoE to be more beneficial than just attack rate.
