I'm working on a Fire/Cold build. I was trying to soft cap S/L defense, but not sure if it's going to happen. Any advice on the build?

After looking at your build I don't really know what to tell you. It looks so cheap I don't know what advice to give you since I don't know how much inf you can spend. But, I would definitely change the slotting on stamina, like just 3 endmods, or even 2, since you have heatloss.

Actually, scratch that. If I were so I would go either for ranged def, or instead of trying for softcap S/L, go for 33%, that way you are only one small purple away from the softcap and you can get rid of some of your most ugly sloting: Snowstorm for example. Also, don't worry about end mods on Heatloss, its already super powerful, Rechage will help you so much more!

And in general, you are gimping your powers too much for the set bonuses... Your powers are way better than set bonuses... Fireball needs more recharge and acc for example, its one of your best powers since its an easy to use AoE and you only have 26% recharge on it.

I really shouldn't have but since I have both a Fire/ corr and a /Cold Troller, I spent a lot of time making a super ranged def build. It is one purple insp away from softcapped range, though it has less recharge bonuses than your first build, trust me this build gives you lots more to do and is so sweet I want to make one... It should be about as cheap as your last build.

I doubt you will be able to softcap S/L without serious compromises to your build. I noticed on both of the above builds that they are lacking the Fighting pool for Weave. I had a slight problem with survivability and I decided to get Fighting over the Leadership pool.

I don't know if that's something you want to do, but if you are going for a more selfish build, then Fighting could get you a few more percentage points of defense.

Personally, Fire/Cold is a strong offensive and debuffing combination. It provides no direct damage mitigation, outside of the some KD from Sleet. This can be a problem since Fire Blast is capable of getting major aggro.

My general advice is to get more +recharge, as that will bring up your powers faster. If you can get some good defense, then that good, but you shouldn't try to force it.

All in all, those build have good survivabilty, and would probably be more than enough for most of the game's content.

I never thought of just going for 33%. Wasn't trying to gimp any powers, would you mind posting your recommendation for a Fire/Cold build? Yes I know this build is cheap, but money isn't really an issue. I just like to make builds cheaper for toons and then go from there. I would prefer not to purple out this toon, but putting some money into the toon won't be a problem.

You can certainly softcap S/L without gimping your build, you may have to change some power picks and slotting to do so. Most likely you'll have to slot up brawl and boxing with Kinetic Combat.

If you want I can see what I can come up with, I have a Sonic/Cold myself with softcapped S/L defense and 65% global recharge.

Alright, here's what I quickly came up with to give you an idea to work from. I dropped Snowstorm because IMO it's just a waste of end. Changed some slotting around in powers to either save slots or for more effective enhancement values. Dropped an Achilles Heel proc in Sleet because it's great in there. I slotted a bunch of LotG's, but you obviously don't have to slot them, it's just an effective way to get more recharge.
