Issue 17 Live server won't load, but test will.

Hello all.
First of all, for once I had no problems getting on to City Of Heroes this evening

All Beta long I fell victim to all the bugs, so I feel good about this.

However, my better half, who had only one problem in Beta, the AVG false positive problem, cannot log in now that this is live.

After I got on the live servers, I went into the living room and fired up his computer (he is at work and called me to tell me he could not log in) to see what I could do.

He is running Windows XP, but has a good computer and a great video card with the drivers updated, or so he told me....

At the User agreement page, I clicked accept, and the hour glass started working..then vanished. The whole thing vanished. It was as if the program went poof.

I then decided to see if he could log onto test.

He can.

He cannot log onto the live servers, but he can log onto test.

What could be the problem here?

He uses the NcSoft Launcher to log into both Test and Test Server.

He does have a link to City Of Heroes in his Game Folder, and I did try that, that but it went POOf exactly like it did with NcSoft Launcher.

I will try any and all suggestions.

I haven't tried test, but mine won't load either. The screen goes black, but I get a gray cursor where the login blanks are. I actually navigated blind by typing in my user name, tabbing to password, assuming I picked a server on which I had a toon and then launched. I got into a weird hot pink-and-blue minimalist Atlas Park. Couldn't see my toon (or anyone else's, but super speed and other effects were visible). Some items were normally visible, like the potted plants, but the trees were just black cross-hatching. Absolutely no text visible, including navigation and controls, so I had to control-alt-del my way out.


What gives????????

My husband is having a similar problem. We are both on macs. he has OSX Leopard, I have Snow Leopard. For him, the updater runs like normal, but when the client tries to load, he does not get the standard loading bar, it just goes straight to a black screen, but no game screen. The test server starts up just fine too. the strange thing is that not even two hours ago, I logged both comps into the game (I logged in one of his toons so that I could invite my new toon into our villain group). I'm afraid to log out on my comp. I'm worried I won't be able to get back in! Not just that, but hubby wants to run a demon MM with me. He doesn't want to get left behind. anyone know of a fix yet?

Edit: He can enter the game in safe mode. I hope maybe that can help someone.

If you've been unable to connect to the Live servers since Issue 17 launched, especially if you've found you can still connect to Test no problem, or you've been finding some generally poor quality graphics, try this:

Go into your City of Heroes installation directory, and yank out your settings folder (should be the folder named after your login), along with your Costumes, PowerCust, Missions, and Custom_Critters folders, then give it a shot.

It just might work for you... certainly worked here!

As stated in the OP, the I17 version of CoH gives a 'false positive' at least for AVG.
So my advice is check that your antivirus isn't blocking CoH.

I can't load either. I get a little flash of the "Loading...." screen then poof. Very frustrating.
