New laptop

Hey all....I was thinking about getting a new laptop...I'm looking to spend no more than $600....so what would you say about this guy?

(no I'm not expecting it to run ultra mode or anything)

Seriously, it's a tough request to find a laptop with some amount of graphics horsepower for $600. Let's see what's at NewEgg.

In my case I'm looking at laptops with discrete GPUs that rank at least Class 2 according to Notebookcheck and comes with Win 7. With that criteria I only came up with four under $700 with only one under $600. Of the four the one with the fastest GPU is the $680 one out of stock. The HD 4570 in the other three should be at least twice as fast as the integrated HD 4100 in the laptop you linked to.

So you don't think the laptop that I have linked would run CoH well?

And again, I'm not expecting awesome graphics...I'm used to playing CoH in all of the lowest graphical settings.

The combination of resolution, framerate and pretty that is acceptable is very much a personal preference.

It's just my personal judgment that an integrated graphics solution, even ATI's which is better than most, isn't going to ever cut it at 3D gaming. And since you can't really swap out the graphics in a laptop it's my belief that you should get as much as you can for as much as what you are willing to spend.

So compare the two and see if you think the Acer is worth $150 more than the Toshiba. Use the image viewers to compare the keyboard layout. Read the reviews to see what people didn't like about them.

And I guess a ST:TOS reference is too old for you young whippersnappers.

Main reason I wanted a 'cheap' laptop was mainly because it would be used just while I was at work. I posted about my situation in the Liberty server forums but suffice to say, I have usually about 2-2.5 hours of 'free time' that I would like to play CoH. But I don't think it'll be worth it...maybe I'll just continue to watch dvds that I bring in instead

I think I'll save my money and get a nice new desktop PC
