Hasten in EM I personally can live with out, but I would not go with out tough in Inv. Cap S/L resistance with out I/O’s is one thing I love about Inv. Regardless of defense or regen, having S/L resistance caped will only help.

Soft-capping an Invulnerability tanker can make for a pretty sturdy build, but in my experience the absolute toughest Invulnerability builds focus on +Health, +Regen, +Def and +Res in that order. These builds can be hideously expensive, but make for a tank that's nearly immortal.

Once you've got your Health in the ~2800 range and your Defenses hovering around the mid-30s with a single foe in range, regenerating 40 or so Health per second will keep you alive through almost anything as long as you haven't neglected your Resistances. Here's the build I'm currently running on my Inv/SS as an example:

A while back I tried a soft-cap setup for the second build on that tank. For most situations the two builds performed identically (far more survivability than necessary for 90% of the game) but when I hit the edge cases I found that the soft-cap build would generally fail sooner against extreme threats than the +Health build. Just my experience.

Here's a little anecdotal evidence on just how silly durable a soft capped Invuln can get; I was running the Anniversary event tonight and came across a mass of GM's and AV's.

Let's see, there were two Lord Recluse AV's, Scirocco, Mako, Black Scorpion as well as 2-3 Echolai, a couple of Jack in Irons and maybe 5 Monster DE. Maybe a couple others I didn't see as well. I jumped in solo with CMA (nobody else had arrived in the area yet) and solo tanked them all for about 3 minutes before they dropped me. That's FIVE AV's including two copies of Lord Recluse and at least 8-9 GM's, and it still took them nearly 3 minutes to kill me. I was alone and all of them most assuredly were aggro'd on me.

That's with soft capped defenses, hard capped S/L resistance and roughly 250% regeneration. Sure I used Dull Pain, and I did pop the 4 small greens I was carrying. I have to admit I was surprised that all those GM's and AV's didn't turn me into a grease spot almost at once... the build's even tougher than I'd thought.

Since you asked so nicely...

Actually, it was kind of fun, I haven't done an SO build in a long time. Anyway, here's the build, a high-survivability build that also has plenty of offensive capability. The only IO is the Steadfast +Def, which gives an additional 3% def to everything.

I used CJ/SJ for the additional def bonus from CJ, but you could also go with Air Sup/Fly and drop Energy Punch, which would give you room for Hasten. You can also drop Unstop for Hasten if you prefer, but I like having Unstop on non-soft-capped Invul builds.

You could do this build with Common IOs instead of SOs, and if you use anything above level 30s you'll get better values unless you're bumping up against the ED cut-off. Note though, if you want to move to a set IO build you'd probably have to respec since the optimal slot distribution will be a little different.

Is the Fighting Pool mandatory for tanks? Not at all! You pretty much need to take Weave if you're going to soft-cap defense, but you can make a Invul tank that's plenty sturdy without soft-capping.

Regarding the newest build, if you can't find/afford the Hami-O's for the KC, any Acc/Dam set IO will do fine. A level 50 set IO's enhancement values are just a few percentage points lower than a Hami-O. (I've certainly never bothered with Hamis for that purpose.)

It's been a while since I've posted in this thread, so apologies if I've said this before...but I'm not a fan of ToD for typed def builds. It's a lot of expensive slots for relatively little return. Replacing the ToD in Bonesmasher with another KC set would give you the same S/L def bonus value as a set of ToD *and* the Oblit set. Then you could slot 3 or 4 Eradication in Whirling Hands for a E/NE defense bonus.

That would also free up a slot or two, one of which could go into Taunt for a better S/L bonus for 4 Mocking Beratement. Since you're over the S/L resist cap, you could easily take a slot from RPD, for instance, and use it elsewhere.

Here are the changes I'd make. I've left a couple of slots open to use for procs, or to use as a 6th MB slot in Taunt, if you wish.
