Updater connection oddities...
The queue is for once you select the server, not during the update.
As I've said in other posts, yes, having so many people downloading this at the same time slows down the connection.
We've also seen in the past that one of the servers or switches before you get to the Update server uses bandwidth throttling so that our downloads are not bogging down their other business customers. They didn't seem to do this for a long time, so I'm not sure if it's due to a change in some of the routing or just complaints from their other customers causing them to implement this bandwidth throttling.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Seems a tad excessive though for simple throttling, don't you think? Then again I suppose if that tiny bit of bandwidth has to be shared by all of us...
I WAS getting this error this morning, but when I got to work, remotely connected and restarted the updater it dropped from 30 hours to 4, so i'll be set when I get home ^_^
Remember gang it is the test servers which are not as beefy as the real servers.
Yeah I left it on through the night because even at the 10KBps it was gonna be done before I got up 7 hours later lol. But who knows if it jumped back up to normal. All i know is OMG SHINYYYY
No need to wait for live leave it on at night or try again in a couple of days it should speed up again.
Yes I searched the first couple pages.
Maybe it's just because of congestion, but I'm having a serious problem trying to download this Open Beta i17 patch. Day it released I was able to get a decent speed of ~130KBps, but after a while this connection dropped to <10KBps. Figuring this was a simple connection glitch I closed the updater, waited a couple minutes and started it again.
Result? Connecting #1 for, oh, 15 minutes maybe...then took another 5 minutes to get to downloading at the same slow speed. Left it on for an hour even to see if it'd come back. That was yesterday. Same thing happens today, and I got to about halfway done, when it started happening again. Comp restarts don't work. DNS flushing/registering doesn't work. So I am left to assume it is congestion, no? I mean I'm sure it's deeeaaaaaamnnn popular and it being around prime time, definately explains it.
What I don't get is why, on my first long connection with that decent speed which starts before the evening, would I be bumped down to such a low tier later on? I never saw anything about a queue some people mentioned in past posts. I feel weird complaining about it like this, but it's just bugging me. Do I need a slap in the face, or something? I'd just like a little bit of info if I can get it.
I want to see the shinies too!
