AV' enough Def ?

Ok I have rolled a Traps Defender... and i'm speccing it for massive defense.

Basically I want the ability to leap into the middle of the chaos and plant traps at the heart of the battle with no fear of being slaughtered. So pretty much 45% to all positions is a must have and tbh fairly easy to get.

My 1st Question is.........

What Defense do I need to be able to Toe Bomb and Trap up an AV?

My build at the moment is looking amazing and currently I have (without gimping any powers)

* 59.1% Melee
* 57.3% Ranged
* 58.2% AoE

Is this enough to safely dodge AV attacks?

My 2ndary is Dark Melee so this is not counting any -acc yet.

p.s - incase I do get hit I also have 64.7 % Res to S/L.

My 2nd Question is.........

Stealth or Hasten ??

I already have stealth IO specc'd in... so Invisibility can of course be very useful, or do I go with Hasten as that much def means it probably won't matter if mobs can see me or not.

For Hasten vs Stealth, the answer is Hasten by a long shot.

You're going to defeat that AV by putting out more Acid Mortars and PGTs. More Seekers will help in general.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

45% is all you will need unless the AV has tohit buffs (Most don't and the ones I know of need to hit first anyway) or defence debuffs (I only really know of Positron/Antimatter that have these).

I think due to scaling an AV will still have a 7.5% chance to hit you, but all that extra defence you have makes no difference for that. I think the -tohit from Dark Blast can put then down to 5% like everything else though, but I am not 100% sure.

Also Hasten > Stealth because the more traps you have the faster things die. Perma-PGT is the best thing you can aim for if you want to solo AV's, and of course is just as good if you bring a team with you too

It might be worth losing a little defence from your build in order to add recharge, or generally improve the slotting in the powers themselves. On my bots/traps I use a lot of HO's to make sure each power has everything maxed out.

The HitChance formula is HitChance = ( AccMods * ( BaseHitChance + ToHitMods – DefMods ) ). BHC+THMod-DMod cannot be smaller than 5% and not be larger than 95% AND AccMod*BHC+THMod-DMod cannot be smaller than 5% and not be larger than 95%.
AVs get a AccMod multiplier of 1.5 based on their rank and AccMod of 1+0.1*level for each level higher than the attacker (max is 1.5). Unless you fight +6 and higher they won't get a THMod based on level difference. BHC for all critters (since I7) is 50%,

So if we assume you're fighting a +3 AV who is not using a power (!) to debuff your defense or to buff his own ToHit, the term in the inner parentheses is:
50% + 0% - 59.1% (for a melee attack) which is lower than 5% so it is set to 5%.

Ignoring AccMods from your secondary powerset the total HitChance is:
1.5*1.3*5% = 9.75%.

EDIT: And if I remember right, you only get ToHit debuffs from Dark Blast, not Acc debuffs.

Not gonna happen, even at 45% defense to all there's still a good chance you get an unlucky streak or cascading failure.
