Crashing issues, graphics card I assume?

I can't get my computer to run CoH. Logged in this AM without any issue to check the market and chat a bit. When I logged back on later in the day, I ran 80% of a mission with no problem, then crashed. My screen froze and the sound looped. Eventually it crashed to the desktop.

Ever since then, I can load CoH without trouble, but the moment I zone in, the game shows about 5-10 seconds of a garbled picture (lots of digital artifacts and tiling on the screen) then freezes. At that point I can't exit the game (ctdlaltdel doesn't work, and the Windows button won't pull up the desktop). Eventually the computer crashes, powering down into a restart. A couple times now I've seen a 'blue screen of death' flash up there at the point the comp crashes, but it isn't there every time and only shows for perhaps 1sec.

I've attached a few pics of the screen; not sure they are helpful.

Here is my system info; if anything important is missing that might help solve the issue let me know!

The computer works perfectly fine for other programs- I can run video websites like youtube and hulu and watch high def video.

So far for troubleshooting I've uninstalled/reinstalled both my video and sound drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled CoH, and installed the SM Bus Controller/motherboard drivers. The game does the same thing in safe mode or normal.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz
NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI SPP
4GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Windows XP

Thanks for any ideas and help you can provide!

If you have or can borrow another comparable video card, I'd start there. Also, when uninstalling and reinstalling video drivers, try using a driver cleaner program.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

I definitely haven't used a driver cleaner. I'll google for one. Thanks.

Could be a driver problem actually. Clean out the old drivers and reinstall the latest ones. If that doesn't fix it then it's the card that needs replacing I'm afraid.

Thanks for the advice. No luck.

Ordered an EVGA GTX285. Sure hope that resolves things!

Sorry Bobi. Sounds like you got bit by the same 8800 bug that several Justice players have been hit with in the past year.

I'd have gone with an ATI 5850 myself, but ... whatever floats your boat.

As a side note, somewhere there is a video or something showing how to resurrect some of the 8800's but it involves putting it in an oven. I thought it was in a thread on Justice, but it was from back in August, September or October so I can't recall for certain.

Pum, Arwen, Uber or Quat may recall where it was.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thanks TJ! I do recall Arwen talking about that a while back.

I did 350 for 12 minutes. It fixed it, but it only lasted about two weeks.
The lead and plastic vapors weren't too bad, but you definitely want good ventilation.
I don't remember the link I used, but this one is similar.

Heh. Thanks, Q! Maybe I'll play with that and stick it in my second comp to test it.

I'm having the same problem when I log in. My screen freezes when i'm making a transaction or just moving about. I couldnt ctrl, alt, dlte because of the cursor was frozen!!

My graphics card is a 9800gt running vista, my toon is in Grandville and when i hit the reset button seveal times to go out...it started to go to acting up at my boot up screen so I switched to my second gfx card and all was well.

is it that my card may be going out or i need to clean it better...I dont want my other card to end up the same way.

Me: You're right about that. Power Blast is very pretty from a certain point of view. But that point of view is not head-on. <Kaboom> - Arcanaville.

Well you can try cleaning it and updating the drivers to see but if changing the card immediately fixed the problem, I'd say there's your trouble.

Driver Sweeper is a free download and works very well.

Yes it does. Try that.

My new vidcard resolved things nicely. Thanks for the advice, folks.
