First time test server

So the version number doesn't say "CoH Test - Version (version #)"?
I know there is a better place for this thread. I'm not sure where, I've never used the forum in all of COH history. I apologize.
I need some help. I followed the instructions for setting up the test server. Adding -test to the end of the target line, running the shortcut, etc. When I use COHUpdater for the COHTest file folder it simply connects to COH as normal. I can't find what I did wrong and would very much like some guidance. If you've had any similar experience please share and let us know how you found a solution. Thanks in advance. |
In the properties of the shortcut the target should say:
"C:\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -test
Right-click on your shortcut, select Properties, and make sure that the text in the Target section looks like one of the following:
64-Bit Windows
Code:
32-Bit Windows"C:\Program Files (x86)\CohTest\CohUpdater.exe" -test
Code:
"C:\Program Files\CohTest\CohUpdater.exe" -test

Not if they used the default path.
And if they didn't use the default path, they'd be rather silly to use something as complicated as the one you listed. People have trouble finding folders on the C drive, you expect them to dig through several layers of folders?
Puh-leeze.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thanks for your help everyone. I don't know why it wasn't working before, but its working now. I had to delete the COH Test folder and restart from the beginning. Instead of the default location I installed it on the desktop. It works now so thats all that matters. Thanks again.

Just about every game I install on Windows 7 goes in the Games folder without me installing it there. I just use the default paths and they magically show up

BTW how dare you mention that "other" game here

And so do both CoH and the CoH Test Server installation on my computer. I didn't leave it at the default path or put it in the Users\whatever path. Also, I find another fairly new game I installed and tried for a couple of months in that same Start > Games entry. The other game wasn't installed in the default location or the Users path either.

I always use a custom installation path for games, and it's served me well for over a decade.
So. Your point is what exactly?
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
