Capped Energy/Energy/Ice

Of course, anyone who tries a blaster def cap has to pick ice mastery, get weave, slot rectified reticule in the build ups, and hit the KC.

But I wanted this cheap and not crippled.

Here it is for your slice-and-dice criticism:

Thanks for any input. I can't even imagine what a capped blaster would be like. Just insane.

That's one way to softcap, but not the only way. For instance, this build is softcapped to Ranged even after the Zephyr nerf:

With Hover and Boost Range you can attack from long range while avoiding return fire. It's weak to AoE attacks, but then the S/L softcapped build is weak to fire and electrical attacks. With Blasters you have to pick a set of things to defend against... you can't dodge everything. (That's a Scrapper's job...)

Also, Kinetic Combat is pretty much the most expensive non-purple attack set in the game so a Ranged defense build might be cheaper. On the other hand, you lose the hard hitting melee.

I like your build, though the accuracy and damage on your single-target blasts may be a bit low. You might want to move two slots from Health and add a Thunderstrike: Acc/Dam/Recharge to Power Burst and Power Bolt or Blast.

I made a similar build for an Ice/Ice/Cold blaster that softcaps S/L without the Fighting pool. It uses a lot of Curtail Speed, one Lethargic Repose, Enfeebled Operation, Neuronic Shutdown and two Kinetic Combat to hit the cap. If anyone wants the build PM me.

Would the second build that's been posted be better for a blaster who wants to stay at long range rather than getting into melee range?

Arg, wish I could see that build at work. Unless it has a datachunk I can't. The link is blocked.

I don't really hover, and it wouldn't fit this concept, but...well, actually my ice/ice hovers.

I'm not worried about AoE damage, though I know that I get gasps when I say that. I'm more worried about end drain and defense debuffs. Not that I can do anything about those.

Good job. My only comment would be are you really going to use the powers the way you've slotted them. Granted, you'd lose cap, but the kb being enhanced is really awkward for me, also having an energy^2. I consider the kb more a curse than a blessing most of the time.

And what's the generi-fly IO doing in fly? You're over cap before you add it. You could put the Winter -slow or maybe put the RRedicule +perception in Build Up. There's no room for the +6 acc in weave or hover.

Causes me pain to see the slotting of Hover like that. But it's to reach a goal.

No love for Nova.

Those Oblits of mine will eat me some, but the rest is pretty cheap. I think I have to get some KCs but mostly I've changed it to Hays. I'm guessing under 800m.

I noticed you'd used Smashing Haymaker's. I'd also use KC's, and that's all I'd change about the build. Apart from that change which you've already mentioned yourself, I love this build.

That build was just a quick example of a Ranged capped build I came up with... unfortunately my hard drive recently died and ate all my good builds so I just threw something together. I wouldn't suggest using it without some optimization.

I prefer Ranged defense to S/L simply because I don't like spending half a billion on a build before even adding any uniques. S/L builds pretty much require Kinetic Combat sets and those are insanely expensive, while Thunderstrikes and such are a lot cheaper. You don't have to give up as much to cap S/L, but it costs more than any build I've ever actually finished (I play a lot of alts).

Postagulous, would you recommend exchanging all the Posi's for Ragnarok's if the money was available to do so? Or would that be a waste of money?

Heck, if the money's available, fill a swimming pool and swim in it, if that's your thing. I'm a cheapo.

I avoid KC, picking up odd things like the RectRecicule to make up for the lack in Hays. I've only got 2.5b between my 18 or so toons. I can't blow mad cash on one which I'll probably stall in the middle 40s anyway.

For myself, I can't justify Ragnaroks. I can craft them and sell them for a profit, but I can't buy them for myself. Just like I've never bought a LotG +7.5%. I can get rech off many cheap sets. This AT for example, Entropics, Deci, and Posi, and...uh...that tohit one. Other stuff.

If I can cap cheap, why go large unless the damage output is significant? But it's everyone's personal choice.

And none of this really blossoms until the Frozen Armor at 44, so you're close to the Hami's.

Have at it. "Do a cost factor analysis" to make sure you really want to. Don't listen to me. Listen to you.
