LOL you sound like you plan to be gone a 'long' time versus the few weeks you mentioned. Same thing happened to me last year. Had to buy a new MB and ram but the rest of the rig worked fine.

I'm pretty sure the contents of your hard drive are okay, at least, assuming there's anything on there you want to save. Just take it out and pop it in the new rig, and you should be able to get everything off it no problem.

I aggree with this, if the Mobo fried, there is a really good chance that your Hard drive didn't get touched. I had a laptop burned on me and I used the hard drive and cpu to build a new desktop. Just take out the hard drive and connect it to a desktop, you'll see if it works or not
In any case, Cobalt light's is pretty good a guiding people back so keep an eye out and we will see you soon.

If your hard drive wasn't effected by your m/boards death, you can use it on your next puter, assuming the sata/ide is compatable, but if the drive wont boot one of the very best data recovery tools is VirtualLab, it almost recovers too much data.
If you go that route I'd only pay for the amount of data recovered rather then the 500gb lump sum.

Well folks, I have bad news. It looks like I'm not going to be able to play for a while since my computer is, for lack of a better word; dead.
Keep me updated though!
Let me explain. I came into my room this evening to find my computer locked up. This is something that has been happening since I first got the computer, so I didn't think much of it. I turned it off and when I tried to turn it back on only the power light went on. No monitor, no hard drive, no nothing.
So I called Toshiba tech support to see what was wrong, and as it turns out, my motherboard is fried. So my computer, and everything on it is gone forever.
Now me and my parents had been talking about getting a new computer anyways, but even with the death of my current computer that probably won't be for another few weeks at least.
Damnit, I'm going to miss you guys.
