Sorry, Dark is great for its utility. More ST than AOE. Nice debuff, a heal.
Elec is just awesome AOE damage. Especially paired with SD.

DM has far greater ST damage and is lacking in AoE, whereas Elec/ is the direct opposite. DM has SL's heal for added survivability built into it's ST attack chain, which helps if you choose a Defensive-based secondary like /Shields. Elec/ does have some decent soft-control in it's sleep/knockdown effects. It's really going to depend heavily on if you want to excel at St or AoE. Pairing DM/ with /Shields can help balance matters due to Shield Charge.
Both are great so make 4 different scrappers and play them all!

Dark/Shield Build Thread
Thanks folks, I'm going to go DM/SD
I have a lvl 28 Fire/SD, a lvl 37 BS/SD, a lvl 12 MA/SD (meh), and I just made a DM/SD... only lvl 7 so far, but LOVING it! 
Edit: 10 minutes later...just got Siphon Life :O holy cow =D
