Video Settings w/o Login?
Either check the box that says "safe mode" on the updater (to log in on absolute minimum preferences, and you can change themonce you get in), or use TweakCoH
Huh... well I got in now, but only by entering my login info blind. Neither Safe Mode nor TweakCoH had any apparent impact aside from changing the screen resolution.
The screens leading in were still blacked out, until I hit an actual character list where all I could see was the character model, but I managed to get into the game. Now I've got a slightly discoloured world where a lot of faces are flat black and all the UI windows are black and dirty-edged. I can barely read them and changing video settings doesn't seem to affect the problem at all.
I guess I'll try updating my video drivers, but this is a brand new card so I doubt that's the issue.

If you did not download and install drivers and only let Windows 7 detect and download drivers, that's a problem. The default drivers are crippled for OpenGL applications. I'm not sure how they do on DirectX games.
Not sure what video card you have, but there was a revision of nVidia drivers that caused a similar issue, but I can't recall what version it was and I'm too lazy to search right now.
Most video cards are shipping with drivers that are at least 3 months out of date, sometimes much more than that. Not just video cards, but almost all hardware.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.

Hey all,
I recently upgraded my hardware and switched to Windows 7. I've just reinstalled CoH and I'm having a wee bit of a video problem.
When I load the game from the launcher, I get nothing but a black screen.
I can hear the game music, and I can hear interaction sounds if I hit Tab or Enter, but I can't see anything. When I alt-tab out, my screen appears to be at around 800x600.
I don't have a clue how to deal with this since the only way I know to access the video settings is from within the game. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
