Thanks for the fun, devs.

For a couple of hours tonight (before and after Lost, of course), I almost got back the feeling this was a brand new game, playing a Dual Pistols/Devices blaster in Atlas Park. I hadn't played the low level game in so long, I'd forgotten how fun it was. I wasn't worrying about my slots or playing the market. I wasn't even caring that I was eventually sucking wind and had to wait for my endurance to recover before attacking any more. Just... none of that mattered!

I was in a pick-up group. We went into the sewer. Then we made our way to Perez Park. If I hadn't been so tired after that, I might have taken up their idea of running a Positron Task Force with them.

But yeah, that old magic of playing the game for the first time sort of came back to me for a little while. I dig that. This is cool. Thanks.

See, that's kind of why I was never a fan of turning the game into serious business with complicated builds and complex economics. I know people enjoy that sort of thing, but I feel it detracts from the act of just goofing off and having fun with the game. My opinion, personally.

I actually managed to do something I hadn't in a while - team on a random PuG. I got invited to it just as I was planning to switch back to my Brute, but a kind team leader sweet-talked me into joining even for just one mission, and I ended up staying for an hour or two. It was a lot of fun, even if I'm not a fan of large teams. We did well, we killed some stuff, we pulled off a blindingly successful Safeguard mission and I went from level 4 to level 9 or some such. Plus, it was fun

I really like the low levels for that. There's no pressure to worry about power selection of slots or money or all of that. Anything you do in the first 10 levels (well, anything within reason) can be fixed later on, so there really is no real problem to be had with just slotting and picking ad-hoc. I wish the whole game could be like that, but then everyone would complain it was "too easy."

As a bonus, I got recognised from the forums. We had a Tanker who basically had to look after a rabble of reckless Blasters and we got him into so much trouble, the poor guy. But he soldiered on, kept us safe and never complained. In fact, it was an amazingly cool team all around, with no-one ever moaning about efficiency or leaving in a huff after a death or making a scene. And everyone was actually chatty, something I haven't seen in a PuG in a LONG time. Really, that's what makes them fun. Not the deathly silence and surgical precision of most focused teams today, but the giddy enthusiasm of a bunch of people just out to have fun

I don't think I'll do it again any time soon, because I just know to quit while I'm ahead, but it was a nice evening.

See, I make my builds as efficient as possible, not because I feel the need to have the most awesome character that ever lived, but because I like being able to go do the most reckless stuff imaginable and live through it

Had a fun PuG a while back, looking forward to a few PuGs with my soon to be created DP/Pain corruptor.

I can echo what has been said - rolled my new Traps/DP and went into the Outbreak, pretty much automatically got a team once I hit Atlas, all of us DP toons. I had a blast (*drum roll*)

Its good to see people getting excited about the game again and everyone having a good time with their hyperactive DP toons!

Thanks for those I teamed with last night

If your mouse has greater processing power than your gfx card, the answer is yes.

I sometimes wish I could play that way, but really it is against my nature. I'm a planner, and I live for costumes and for builds ... not in that order. So, I have to have my character planned to level 50 before I can even enter the game, because until I know exactly how I'm going to slot the character, I don't know if I'll take the first or the second power at all, or which it would be better to take for my build layout.

So, before I can even enter the game, I've got to plink around in Mids to level 50. That's half the fun to me.

I've been a lot more willing to just wing it ever since I realised I had, like, three veteran respecs on every character

Oh I have them too (69 month vet here) but I'm too nervous / paranoid to use them unless I realize I've made a horrible mistake.
