Sounds interesting, as a player who has PvP'd all of twice I am a bit hesitant to say YES, but I am sure I can be persuaded to to show up and see what the crazyness is all about.

any pointers about PvP in general, or what might be an easier beginner PvP toon would go a long way to encouraging me to show up. Also knowing a time

This is just the event for you. It's really casual, not meant for super competetive, but it also gives you an idea of what PvP is like.

Do not be afraid if you only have PvE toons. Bring them.

In any case, if you really are interested in PvPing, it depends on what you want to play. Ranged, Disruption, tauntbot?


PvP is a different monster to tackle. Mechanics are different, and most of the time, you usually get Single Target powers. AoE is nothing in PvP.

Three things to remember:

1. Evade
2. Evade
3. Evade

Inspiration management = integral

Try to go for someone who can deal a lot of damage and/or can debuff or use hard controls (stuns/holds). Make sure they have a good travel power. Super speed/jump is good for just about anyone, fly is not suggested for melee people, and teleport is nice for escaping but not for chasing.

So basically, blasters/dominators/corruptors are good (since corruptors are kill stealers and getting the final hit is what matters for points), melee characters are good as long as they can move fast to keep up with people, and I wouldn't suggest trying a defender/controller/mastermind as only certain powerset combinations of those can be effective, and even then a FFA format doesn't favor them.

I agree with both JK and Garent, and I'll reiterate JK's point this is to help introduce pvp so if you dont have a pvp specced toon its no issue. Bring anything you have that can do decent burst damage as Garent already suggested. Besides Funks gonna be in it and hes totally farmable. lolz!

Holds aren't actually that hot in PvP 2.0. You're better off going with knockback and lots of it. The animation will basically paralyze you and set up a good spike for your team. Go with a fully slotted Defender Force Bolt for best effect, or Mind Control Levitate works quite well too. Holds are ok as an intermediary in between your KB and your damage attack.

You want Phase or Hiber. Period. You'll die a lot if you don't have one of these. I recommend Phase as you maintain mobility.

If you're 'srs bsns' I recommend 43-60 points of KB protection.

Proc any ranged attacks you have. Neutrino Bolt for Corruptors can be 'proc-gunned' very well.

Tanks/Brutes can be serviceable as taunt bots, but again take Phase in your build.

/EM Blasters are still good, with Psy ruling the roost these days because of the massive damage that is delivered in delayed packets from 1,000 miles away.

You really do want SS/SJ for anything Arena related.

It's Shraks and Thunderstrike. AS is for pros, everyone just shraks now.

P.S. JK, I'm not sure what I'm bringing yet. While plan Force Bolt might be good I'm really liking my Mind/Cold/Force these days too, and she's fully purpled/Accod. Well, I could use Katie but whatever. We'll talk during practice.
