For the following reasons, mostly:
a) Starting a new thread allows the starter to establish that day's theme, to be followed or not.
b) Huge threads are intimidating to a new member, who often will not know where to begin, or feel they could never read it all. New threads start over fresh, and are more welcoming to a new person.
c) The thread would be 28 million pages if we hadn't, and we probably would have had to break it up into smaller ones anyway.
d) It's not hurting anyone or causing any disruptions to the board. It's not like we are posting 30 threads a day. By the time a new thread is posted, the old one has pretty much sunk off into obscurity, unless the boards are moving particularly slowly.

Way to miss the point. The thread spam is being defended because they might become 'obscure', yet cramming so many into so few pages is hardly dropping off the face of the planet. Evidently though you're more concerned with boosting post count than anything else, so this is my last response.
