Why does my defense lower in PvP?

I use Luck of the Gambler and Serendipity for my defense. (Super Reflexes). My defense drops about 15% in any PvP or arena area.

Yes, in short, Super Reflexes is less effective in PvP now than it was in PvP 1.0 (and we all know how poor it was in PvP 1.0, so that tells you the sad state it's in).

So not only does everyone's ToHit bypass your Defense, but it's also impossible to build up enough Defense to give enough to survive on thanks to DR. Super Strength especially is rock to SR's scissor. With a single power, SS bypasses your 8 power picks in your whole secondary. Ouch.

A temporary solution was found to this in Elusivity. And it worked! Unfortunately, Forts also got Elusivity which, in addition to their hard and soft controls and range made Elusivity look overpowered so it was taken away from everyone when it just should have been taken away from Forts (and Personal Force Field).

In short, SR seriously needs the 30% Elusivity back. SR was not overpowered with it. At all. It was merely survivable for the first and only time in its PvP existence.

I play SR is casual zone PvP and let me tell you, the combat log regularly shows chances of 75%-95% to be hit (in other words, your secondary may as well not even be there).

SR is probably (Elude notwithstanding) better off now than it was pre-I13, because while DR cuts into your defense bonuses, you can still achieve respectable levels relative to the amount of tohit someone can get. The problem with SR and defense in general is that it's very subject to luck and has no real resistances outside the scaling resists to back it up.

Defense (along with other attributes) lowers so that a normal player like you can get kills against experienced players and earn PvP IOs that are selling for up to 4 billion off the market.


I know what you are thinking... Optical that sounds crazy! How does having the SR defense for both an experienced and normal player at 15% help a normal player beat an experienced player???

I have no effing clue really.

Just messin' haha! The clue is that PvP was designed so that we all die easier to increase chances of reward. Most of the rewards are going to experienced players and teams anyway because the Devs have created a system where is is much easier to kill normal players and teams.

BUT if you don't believe me and are the "in need of proof" type then I shall provide.

OK, so now that things have calmed down a bit, here's the low down on this one.

Macskull and Warface both got it right. When we looked at how the PVP system was going to work with a rewards system, the result was pretty nasty. It's a massive oversimplification, but normal players could not compete with experienced PVP'rs, which wasn't much fun for the normal players.

PVP needed to be reworked so a normal player had a reasonable chance of beating an experienced player. Otherwise, normal players simply will not play if they have no chance of winning. Ending the /threadjack there though."

Lmao "normal player". Sunstorm meant n00b.

You see Castle wasn't very good at I13 PVP. He was a "n00b" because he had limited success and died a lot. Now you can't exactly call one of the game's developers a "n00b", so they rebranded him as a "normal player." This led to a slippery slope of "necessary" changes. Because as we all know, "normal players" should be able to play any part of the game well.

See how dangerous it can be when game developers use the wrong words to refer to stuff?

my therm mastermind has like 45% defense to smash/lethal outside of pvp.

it goes to 13% in PVP.

PB'd Veng (40% on its own in PvE) takes my MM from 15% to 19%.

Cause the devs want it to ..

They arent content with an I Win Button, they want to beat us all up with brawl, flurry and kick
