Dark Melee Question

I have a Dark Melee/Energy Aura Stalker. I don't play him much.* However, do all dark powers have a fear component? I know there is a fear power in this set (He's not high enough to get it yet)

I ask because when I've used Smite, I have seen enemies "feared" with the skull face over them and they are shaking. I've even seen it fear a second enemy when I have used Smite on one next to him.

I went to the wiki and looked at the powerset but, aside from the power Touch of Fear, I do not see any reference to a fear component in the set itself.
Thank you.

*I don't play villains much. I tried again just last weekend and I ended up kidnapping innocent citizens and delivering them to the Vahzilok. I felt horrible. I guess I'm just not made to be a villain. I love this character though, so he's a prime candidite to "go rogue."

Actually, Assassination (the stalker inherent) does provide a chance to fear when Assassinating, so it probably is the fear animation. The OP is probably just misinterpreting which power is causing it. It's Assassin's Eclipse, not Smite.

This. Most people don't even realize it does this, because it only works if your target survives the AS. If it kills the target in one hit there is no fear effect.

*This is an observation of 44 levels of playing a DM/Nin stalker. I have never seen the fear effect take place if my target died from the AS. If it survived I saw the fear effect frequently.

Dark Melee's inherent effect is a to-hit debuff.

The Assassination attack grants a temp power to the target which generates an AoE "chance to fear" effect. The fear pulses a few times before it wears off. This would explain both what the OP sees and you not seeing the fear effect when the target dies.

Aah, I love it when people don't read the whole thread... even when it's only four posts long...

Yep, that would explain it. Strange ingame logic though when you think about it though:

"Oh my god, he almost eviserated Jeff." *Fear*
"Oh look, he carved Jeffs head off in one strike. Get him!"

Stick that tongue somewhere else, Aggie. I've added the times to your quotes to show that Dechs' correction, your response, and my correction all happened within 5 minutes. I am simply slower (or my breakfast got done in the middle of my response), not ignorant enough to read the OP and 1 response, but not the rest. I always read all responses (sometimes painfully so) up to the point I hit the reply button.

I did see them when it posted up of course, but figured most folks could figure out what happened when using asynchronous communication methods on their own. It's especially common on this forum with all our helpful folks that check it frequently, and I didn't see the need to bother editing afterward.

back at ya!
