Could I get a bit of feedback on my WP/WM tank build?

So this is the build I have been using on my WP tank for a while, personally I like it a lot, but I was wondering If I could get some ideas on improvements?

Here is my build:

Please let me know what you think. I know I built for defence, but over all having defence soft capped has done me well for this build,

Ive been able to main tank all of the level 50 TFs so far without an off tank but have not tried the lady grey tf quite yet.

thanks in advanced

No point in the S'fstPrt-ResKB in HPT; you could swap it for a Resist or Heal.

You should put 1 - 3 Heals in Rise to the Challenge to boost your regen in battle.

Other than that, I'm just amazed you could afford to put a full set of Kinetic Combats in Brawl!

You're making a common mistake with Willpower.

You're slotting for Positional defense when you should be slotting for Typed defense. Willpower has no inherent positional defense, but it does have Energy/N.Energy/Fire/Cold defense. By not slotting for those defense types you're basically wasting Heightened Senses.

Why would you take both Boxing and Kick and NOT take Tough? You used one of the unnecessary powers you took there to get 3.75% defense to smashing/lethal. Tough would give you 20% resistance when slotted.

Sets I use for typed defense, specifically for WP:

PBAoEs: 4 Eradication, 2 Scirocco's. Eradication gives you a lot of E/N defense, and the 4th slot gives you more HP. The 2 Scirocco's gives you another 10% regen (more regen is a good thing when it's what keeps you alive.

Resist powers: 3 Aegis, 3 Reactive Armor (if you have the extra slots). Aegis gives you Fire/Cold defense Reactive Armor, as you know, gives E/N defense. I'd slot 3 Numina's and 3 Aegis in HPT, and at least 3 Aegis in MoB and Tough.

Single Target attacks: Kinetic Combat is okay for them, but you have gobs of smash/lethal resistance, so you might be better off spending the craptons of money you'd spend on Kinetic Combats elsewhere. I like Mako's and Crushing Impact for these.

Defense sets: I like LotG unless I'm looking for positional defense (which you shouldn't be), 3 or 4 of them.

Looking at your build, it looks to me like you're softcapped to melee and smash/lethal. What about the rest of them? Ranged/AoE and the exotic types?

You SHOULD be able to softcap all types on a WP tank, which will serve you well I think. I'll throw together a build when I get home from work and can use Mid's. If you've tanked all that already with this build it's probably pretty solid, but I'm pretty sureit can be better.

Actually no I am not, If you did not notice a lot of the enhancements that I grabbed that have melee defense. (notice this is the only positional defense I worked at all) Melee defense also provides boosts to smashing/lethal defense. If you pull the build of in Mid's, the only defense truly soft capped is Smashing/Lethal and that is definitely typed defense, and not positional. Take a look again please.

The reason for this is simply the extra 4 slots for Kinetic Combat, Which provides a whopping 3.75% defense to smashing/Lethal which is the main defense I need soft capped.

Those look like pretty good slotting, but I am wondering as to how in the world it soft caps Smashing/Lethal you have to realize I am not slotting like a typical Willpower, I am going for defense, not Resistance like most Willpower tankers. Now If I can find a way to keep my defenses to smashing/lethal soft capped, and get my resistances up higher all the better.

Please note again, I was not looking for positional defense, You were misreading the Touch of deaths and Obliterations as me going for positional, note that both of them provide both +Melee defense and a boost the +Smashing/Lethal Defense, which in order to get soft capped defense to smashing/lethal i needed. And no my Melee defense is not soft capped at all.

Soft capping all typed defenses? I haven't seen that ever done if you can make a build like that please do show me as it has spiked my interest. All though honestly the only time that that is truly required at all is on the very few attacks in game which do not have any part smashing or lethal damage. From my understanding over 90% of attacks in game have some part smashing or lethal damage.

If you can do that without giving a major hit to my Smashing/Lethal defense, or my regeneration and recovery (Which in this build seems to be quite good with +614% regeneration and +240% recovery giving me about 55hp a second in game and 4 Endurance a second in game)

Now I know the build I put before you guys is a bit off from standard willpower tankers, but it has done well, the changes in it I am looking for are stuff such as being able to do things such as more resistance with out much of a hit too the other things in my build.

Anyway please do take a look again and let me know what you think, And if you see anyways I can improve the numbers you see in Mid's overall most definitely please do point it out!

Thank you guys in advanced, and sorry about the long post, but I wanted to reply to all that ClawsandEffect said.

That sounds like a challenge.....

Also, I was at work when I posted that earlier and couldn't open the build in Mid's to look at it, all I had to go on was what I know of the sets off the top of my head.

And for the record, it's not 90% that have a smash/lethal component, more like 60%.

Anything typed fire/energy/n.energy/cold and ranged or AoE is going to bypass all that smashing/lethal defense completely. Flares, Charged Bolts, the N. Energy attacks that all ghosts use exclusively, and way too many more to list. It doesn't matter WHERE they are in relation to you, those attacks will always be tagged type/position. So a fire/ranged attack is still fire/ranged, even if the attacker is standing right next to you.

You really needed to take RttC earlier, and you seriously shortchanged yourself on your regeneration from it. Willpower is a mixed set with a little of this and a little of that. I wouldn't focus exclusively on chasing defense bonuses: that's the most frequently debuffed armor type.

You have absolutely no use for -KB enhancements. Sell them, free the slot, and put it to work.

If you feed slots to Brawl, a witch will turn you into a newt. Happened to me, too.

This doesn't approach the defense cap quite as closely, but it would work better on other things:

Here ya go, softcapped to all typed defense, and 32% psi defense as well. Also, you're sitting at 65% resistance to smashing/lethal.

729% regen with 1 in range of RttC, it shoots up to 1171% with 10 (which I'm guessing you will have fairly often) The recovery suffered a little, but you're still over 4 end/sec (and that's without Stamina). And you're burning a little more end, but you should still be well within endurance sustainability.

I used some Hami-Os to save slots, my theory being if you can afford 5 full sets of Kinetic Combat you can afford a few Hami-Os.

Not as much recharge, but that really shouldn't be a big deal.

Edit: I replaced the BotZ in COmbat Jumping with 2 more LotG (Defense and Def/End), all typed defenses are now at least 47% and regen is 739%.

Wow claws, quite a build there!

Not sure if Ill be able to afford the Hami-Os or not though at this point, I haven't check prices on them, How much are the Hami-Os you used on average?

But I am definitely impressed! That is a really good build. Then end drain may be a very slight issue in the build but I think your right about it still being sustainable, if its not worse comes to worse I just don't run Focused Accuracy though not sure what ill do about global accuracy then.

The only other thing I saw that took any real hit from what I can tell is Global recharge. I managed to squeeze in another 7.5% by replacing one of the enzyme exposures in Manuevers with a lotg defence/7.5% recharge. that got global recharge to 35% which i think I can be happy with and it wasn't a significant defense drop at all luckily.

But I think still its a really good build I may actually end up respecing into it. Thank you by the way!

Glad I could help. I like the challenge of taking an already solid build and making it better.

Last I checked HOs were in the 50-100 mil range. But...if you already have all those Kinetic Combats you can sell a set and probably get a couple hundred mil out of it (maybe, haven't checked those lately either)

Alternately, you can run a bunch of STFs, since one of the options upon completion is a synthetic Hami-O, which are absolutely identical in function. If you get one you don't need, you can sell it towards the ones you do.

I just have one question about your build, do you see any way I can squeeze out a few more percent of recharge? Or do you think with the Lotg recharge I placed its about all Ill be able to fit in without damaging other things?

If you really want to improve your recharge, why not ditch Maneuvers and pick up Hasten instead? In Claws' build, Weave is very underslotted, just slotting it up will get you quite close to the soft-cap without Maneuvers.

I'd also drop Focused Accuracy and Physical Perfection for Build Up and Stamina, but then, I'm not much of a fan of either FA or Maneuvers.

EDIT: Although it's an interesting excercise to find a way to soft-cap to the main damage types, if I were building a WP/WM I wouldn't worry about soft-capping F/C defense. It'd probably be a bit cheaper, too.

Here you go.

I switched some slotting around.

Kept the softcap, and recharge is 42.5% (which I think is about where it was on your original build.) Got regen a little higher too.

And to be perfectly honest, the one I would be least worried about softcapping would be smashing/lethal. I mean, with 65% resistance and 749% regen do you really care if a couple hits get through? Either way, here's the revised version:

Below is a build that soft caps all typed defense except psionic. The build does not use HO, and all powers are slotted normally (i.e. no under or weird slotting). The resistance is better and it has strength of will, which I think is useful. The bad thing is that it doesn't have recharge bonus, slightly lower hit points and regeneration, and the power picks may not be what you want.

I believe the builds here are supposed to be suggestions. You probably want to tweak them to fit your need.
