Elec/SD

Was farming on my Elec/SD brute (soft-capped) last night. Good for AOE goodness, but wow really weak still on single-target. Even Thunderstrke seems to hit single targets like a wet kitten.

For PPP I have Mu, with the single-target blast and the Ball AOE. Maybe I'd be better off changing to GW for Gloom and the weaker AOE? Or are there better options?

I usually hit build up, run into a group (+2/+8), Ball Lighting, Chain Lighting, Thunderstrike, Lighting Rod, Shield Charge ....

why would you use your high damage AOEs last? if you kill things off early you are only hurting your AAO damage buff. and besides, with decent fury and build up, shield charge should kill most of your minions and LTs anyway...

Just because I thought they get the BU buff even if they are *started* during the buff period, whereas their long animations would otherwise consume more of the buff period.

I can try it the other way, it's no big deal really. The key issue is single target dmg once they AOEs are over.

Both Lightning Rod and Shield Charge are your hardest-hitting attacks. As they have the highest base damage, you want to use them first.

Furthermore, they also do AoE knockdown, meaning that your survivability will go way up because after the 1-2 combo, most anything but the boss will be dead, or near death, and you will have a LOT less attacking you.

For tactics, this is the best option.

(to maximize damage also run in first to get the AAO buff and then BU->LR->SC->Ball Lightning->Thunderstrike->Chain)

Unless your fury bar is already full, consider letting the bad guys take a couple of shots at you while you do a couple of single target attacks. Then do the BU + AoE's attack chain...that will maximize your damage. Should kill all +2 minions and Lt's will either be dead or have a sliver of ife. If you're also farming bosses consider attacking them a handful of times with single target attacks and TS, then go into the AoE chain. By the time you're done you'll have TS up again and will finish them off with a few more single target hits.

I like to rush in and drop a Chain Induction first, it's fun watching it jump from one guy to the next. That usually gives you that second you need to build up AAO and fury, then drop the hammer on them with the big guns.

My experiences with /sd suggest that you can cap out your dmg on SC through fury/aao without having to use BU. I remember running farms with my axe/sd brute and not getting any more dmg after about 540pts or so with SC. Anyone else notice this, or does it not occur any more? I was doing this when AE farming was new and shiny.

Not quite.

95% Dmg Enhancement
180% from 90% Fury
65% from AAO at 10 mobs
-----------------------
340% dmg out of 400%

Not to argue, but pulled this off another post. This matches my experience, the base 100% goes into the equation.

Shield Brutes often get absolutely no damage benefit from Build Up for Shield Charge and Lighting Rod due to the affect of AAO.

Thanks, I forgot about the base 100%.
