I need some help. My build has soft capped melee def and about 32 to ranged, and my recovery is kinda terrible. So, I'm looking for a brute that can handle +2 X8 with bosses. Could someone help me out with a build that I can tweak. Prefer someone with experience on this sort of brute. Mine does ok, but i need purps and constantly need more end.

32 is not softcapped. Softcap refers to where a stat, in most/all situations, stops giving a benefit if increased yet is not hard capped there so it can't increase.
For defense, the hard cap is 225% for a brute (over level 21...). You cannot get the number to increase beyond this. It's a crazy high number. And kinda useless that high (for the most part) due to the minimum chance to hit (5%).
The soft cap, however, is 45% - base critter to hit is 50%, and there is always a minimum 5% to hit, so 50-45=5%, so in most situations 45 is the max you benefit from.

Do you have Mids' Hero & Villain Designer? It's easier for people to make suggestions if they know what build you're currently using, and Mids' makes it easy to post and modify build plans.

Terminology trivia here...

He's saying that his build is soft capped to melee and 32% to ranged, not soft capped at 32.

Anyway, Ares, either the Brute or Invention forums would probably be best for build questions - Brute overall since the people there would be taking into account the brute caps/stats.

Yeah I was referring to melee defense. My melee is softcapped at 45% not my ranged, i can't seem to work that in >.<. gonna check brute forums, but i figure i can get a better response here.

Unless you're farming inf there's not much needed to fight at +2/x8. The recipe and salvage drop rate is the same at +0 or +1/x8, but +2 is more fun if your build can handle it.

Actually, the best group to ask about melee builds is the Scrapper forums. In fact i'd suggest checking there for builds that are already posted for Elec/Shield. The Scrapper forums has the most knowledgeable posters when it comes to maximizing melee builds. These are the sorts who invented the RWZ challenge: fighting level 54 RWZ spawns with no inspirations or temp powers used.

I am at work so I don't have the particulars...but I'll give you what I can from memory.
My build isn't super-expensive, but it will take a bit of change to get there. In the end you'll have soft-capped defense to ranged and melee. In addition to the Shield powers, I also run Tough, Weave and CJ. The latter two provide nearly 10% defense to range/melee once they are slotted up, so that's a piece of the puzzle.
I built my ranged from bonuses from various sets:
-3 sets of Red Fortune (2.5% each to ranged). 1 each in the two shield toggles, and 1 in Weave.
-I have Gaussians 6-slotted in Build Up, and that grants another 2.5% (I think) to ranged and melee.
-I think I also slotted a full set of Mako's Bite into one of my melee attacks, which grants another 2.5% or 3% to ranged.
-I have 2 Blessing of the Zephyr in CJ, and that is another bonus to both ranged and melee, I believe.
For melee I have
-Obliteration slotted into both Shield Charge and Lightning Rod.
-I have a set of Touch of Death in another melee (maybe Havoc Punch?).
That's all I can think of from memory...probably missing something. To offset the end usage I have both a Miracle and Numina unique running in Health, as well as your standard Stamina slotting. If you have a spare slot throw in the performance shifter chance for +end.
The build is quite fun and can be very strong. You end up with a good deal of defense bonuses as well as +rech and + acc. I farm all sorts of things with it, usually at the +2/x8 level you mentioned. It's also a lot of fun on TF's. Feel free to PM me and I can get the particulars of the build to you when I'm online at home.
