Airheaded Vision

Hmmmm, I might have to miss a few of those details, but I don't think it's too late to adjust my piece. I was going for a fashion model look... as that's what came to mind when I saw the striped sleeves and vest.

I will try to keep him within your vision, I think I got the features right on the face. I did some research of my own based on aboriginal faces, even found an albino one... but in the end I sort of stylized the screen shot and a cross between the flat nose, and lips. The hair IS giving me a challenge, I will have to work on it more... but so far I am having a lot of fun on him.

As to my reasoning for drawing it for you, mainly he looked like a challenge, and part of my fun is drawing someone new for a change of pace. I can't draw TAs all day...

I'm positive TA disagrees with you about that!

Was flatting, but the wife pulled me away for alone time - which translates to, come watch Top Model. So will be back to flatting in 2 hours... btw, all changes are in, and I'm pretty happy with the result.

Glad you enjoyed the cover, Comrade Hero!

Sounds intriguing, Lady Judgement. I look forward to the result! And I now have some flatting of my own to do, courtesy of...

Nema! For all of his fans out there, and the infinitely smaller Airhead fandom, here is a beautiful piece of Carlos' pencil art. Airhead is fighting crime again in his own peculiar way (click on image to see bigger version at DeviantArt):

I have no idea yet about getting it coloured.

I'm slightly concerned that he's using a fork and the not quite sure look on his face isn't reassuring me, lol. Great snag though! Nema does do awesome work

I have a sneaking suspicion that Airhead is going to let one rip and finish off the unfortunate villain through poison gas...

Very cool...

I also never knew that a fork was a proper bomb disarmament tool (I thought sporks were what the pro's used) but sometimes you just have to use what is at hand...

Who ever said he was disarming it?

(Still in breathless anticipation of LJ...)

Larissa, I honestly did not know why Airhead chose to use a fork when I requested this pose. I suggested a couple of implements, Nema wisely chose the fork. As Caemgen suggests, you use what is at hand. So this must take place in a (rapidly evacuating) restaurant. Makes sense so far. But Thornster made me think... oh. He's eating the bomb? Which will probably lead to Comrade Hero's prediction. Bye bye terrorist.

I did some flats (with a spaghetti-coloured wire), which make Airhead and the bomb stand out (the terrorist is just furniture, heh) but overall, the scene was the colour of... puke.

So I pursued a professional to do the colours.

Best. Hair. Evar.

Thanks LJ! I breathe again, knowing Airhead was in great hands.

Airhead does end up taking on all kinds of Day Jobs, and he's hanging out in Pocket D these days, which is where this was probably taken. I just realized what he's thinking too - the photographer said, "Watch the birdie!", and Airhead blushed. Which is why he's looking healthier here than his usual greyish skin

Airhead has never won a costume contest in CoH. But if I could just convince the developers to put that hair into the game... and only for me...

...

The fabric shading is awesome, on both the vest and the sleeves! I like how you've not mirrored the stripes on the sleeves, another thing to make him unique. And I just spotted his "wide leather with eyelets" belt, that I use in-game to give the vest a flat bottom edge. Very slick!

Thanks DarkEther, I was lucky indeed. So lucky, in fact, that I just received another Airhead in my email from LJ! My dA Airhead widget was maxxed out, so I created another widget below it for gift art. I'm not sure if I'll need to change the title of it though. This has Airhead taking advantage of his deep-set eyes to look smouldery:

This one has some intriguing shading, up real close it looks like it was done by Wolverine on a billboard...

Thanks LJ!

I can't seem to get those nice mid-sized pictures off DeviantArt any more. Argh! So here instead is a hopelessly small thumbnail link to the dA image. This is my Nema art coloured by Michael Wiggam. Michael has been colourist on Star Wars comics for Dark Horse. See more in the comments section of his dA page (link to this thumbnail then to his artist icon for heretic-0).

There's a whole lot of things Michael fixed with my flats, not least being most of my colour choices. I really like the way the sleeve stripes fade under direct light to bring out the sleeve structure, and the bomb looks more like a bomb, with the viewer's focus drawn to the detail (beats my lurid orange). Lots of interest in the face too. Some material textures are only visible on the 43MB full-size (not uploaded...) Michael was also extremely nice to work with.

After quite some time of nothing but Airhead after Airhead, here at last are some other characters from his world. Drawn by the incredible WakaBee, I will ultimately use these to decorate web pages describing a little bit about each of them.

For now, I'll just list their origins in alphabetical country order (not the order pictured above). You can probably guess most of them: Airhead the Unique, Mr. Knave the American, Sergius the Belarussian, Mya the Burmese, Nasser the Egyptian, and Iab the Lao.

As soon as dA starts working again I'll post another commission that came at the same time as this. Teaser at left!

Nice pickups, Airhead.

Ahh, the pop-up box on dA that insists on cataloguing the type of image finally works again, so I was able to upload my Daggerpoint commission!

This is about as high-end as Airhead will ever go. But it was worth it for such an important moment in his life. His Dances with Jellyfish moment. While tied up. Really important.

You might recognize the pose, but if not, you can always visit dA (click pic) for more clues. I am really happy with this. It was another slow commission, as the artist managed to mangle himself, but he got better. Now I'll have to try even harder to find a place around here that can print these out correctly.

Thanks Bayani, Juggertha and Dark Ether!

I just got another commission sketch, the long awaited Sanchez bust! But... I then got it coloured, so removed the pencil version that was here

I love the dances with jellyfish one, makes me wonder which one is copying which? The only thing which is a little strange is the water is extremely blue for an inside tank.

Posted

Thanks Amy Jade. The "who is copying who" is something I discussed with the artist, it is great to hear it was relevant. The logical answer would be that jellyfish can't see, but in a world with super powers, who knows what might be the truth? Edit: On and the water - I'd imagined it greenish-brown, like the hull of a City of Heroes cargo ship, but the ultraviolet light (looks purplish-blue on my screen) is a good idea. Very dance club.

It's taken a lot of commissions to find out what needs to be specified with Airhead's design (and even then stuff gets ignored sometimes, or I forget to mention something). Hopefully this diagram will keep his look consistent in future commissions, while still allowing for individual styles and embellishments.

I am pursuing a model sheet / turnaround so you'll get to see what his butt looks like eventually, but for now you're safe.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

Gift art from the indomitable southparked sand scene specialist Moebius777! The scene was entirely dreamed up by the artist, and yet it fits perfectly with my character concept. Love the background too. A very happy result for Airhead and me.

Check out Moebius' gallery (click on image). He has a truly unique style of handling heroes that might be bigger than a yo-yo craze.

Mmmm, now I can't help but wonder what a battle of wits between Airhead and Wile E. Coyote would be like!!

the one thing I am sure about, Acme would make quite a nice profit!

(great gift art! Congrats!)
