[Crash] Toshiba Satellite Laptops
I've recently resubscribed to City of Heroes/Villains after purchasing a new laptop one year previous. Since I've started playing, I've been experiencing frequent crashes, each one of them sudden and almost inexplicable. There doesn't seem to be any one action or event that causes them, as I could be standing still for roughly five minutes after logging into or entering a relatively empty zone, and the game will still crash.
After researching a bit though these forums, I've noticed a trend of Toshiba Satellite (laptop) users have also encountered this problem as well. My particular model is the M305, running the Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family with updated drivers. It's more than capable of running more graphically-demanding games such as Half-Life 2, and I've located no solution for this problem as of so far. As of so far, I have no crash report, as the game simply exits out to the desktop. Is there any way of preventing this? |
That being said, post a CoH Helper log and let's see what you're working with. I wouldn't hold my breath though. You'll most likely end up having to play with fairly low settings.

We'll see....

Right off the bat I can see your video drivers are horribly out of date. That would definitely be your starting point.

I have a Toshiba x205 and have never had any issue, but it has a Nvidia 8700M 512MB. Integrated Video Cards are always finicky, rarely updated, and never meant for serious 3D gaming.
I have the same problem. Here's my stuff.

Vivace, you also have old video drivers. Updating them is your first step. That's of course ignoring the fact that you've got an ATI 3100 which if I remember correctly, is also an integrated card. CoH does not like integrated GPU's.

We'll see....
It's not that CoH/V doesn't like them, it's that those are very low end graphics processors for this game and updated laptop drivers are a bit harder to find.

Searching Toshiba's Drivers section only lead me in circles several times before downloading the exact same software I've attempted to update with already. (Even with the automatic-detection utility.) Both times, it's failed.
Thanks for attempting to help, but it seems that I can do no more to my computer itself to improve performance with City of Heroes.
