Kaspersky killing COH
The updater itself connects to the internet and can download/install and access the Windows registry. Kaspersky likely sees this as a threat.
The game client shouldn't have any issues on it's own, and can be run directly by using the following shortcut (using default install directory as example):
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
But that still wont help you update the game when there are patches to the client. I am not familiar with Kaspersky specifically, but I'd be willing to bet there is an area where you can list your own exceptions. If you list CohUpdater.exe and cityofheroes.exe as exceptions, Kaspersky should ignore them and allow you to update/play normally.
i'd dump kaspersky and get another protection software. avast or avg is good and free.

I have used Kaspersky before and found it to be very temperamental. It shares a lot of unwanted qualities as Norton in that respect, but yes, there should be a program exception list somewhere in the Program Control Panel. If it still doesn't work I would really agree with the others and swap it for Avast or AVG. Although I do find Avast slightly more trust-worthy. Also, if you are running Vista make sure UAC is turned off as it may be silently blocking it without asking for permission, I have had that issue before as well. Hope any of this information helps you, Good Luck - Loke
Hello, guys.
I just got my new computer home and I got it up and running. Installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 to make sure I was fully protected from attacks. However, it appears that no matter what I do, the program will not let me run the game client. To make matters worse, I now have a city of heroes folder on my regular program files and my program files (x86). I can get those to uninstall because it says they are in use by another program. Likely this is in Kaspersky's quarantine area.
If I use a CD to install the game, will that help me get up and running?
Can someone please help me?
