So, er, Mask Presence

Does this actually do anything stealthwise, or is the transparency and 4000% stealth in the stats just a placebo?

"Hidden" on a VEAT doesn't mean "hidden" like a Stalker. It's better than a pool stealth power or stealth IO, PvE-wise (Stalker and VEAT hide powers give the same stealth in PvP, though the VEAT cannot self-cap stealth), but it's not enough to be completely invisible. You'll need a stealth IO or Super Speed to get there.

Yeah, i wasn't talking about the "Hidden" status, I was talking about the power description (which says it provides 4000% stealth) and the effect that's typically used for stealth effects (transparency).

Stuff keeps attacking me from a fairly significant distance, enough that I wonder if this is actually providing much stealth at all. I'm used to the stealth pool power, super speed, cloak of darkness, shadow fall, steamy mist, and hide, and I just feel like I get spotted a bit too frequently on my widow.

As an example, there's one mission filled with Longbow Eagles and those flying Longbow jet things. I swam halfway to the Longbow ship before these flying mobs started shooting at me. They were not directly above, but probably at a distance of 30-40 feet. I also entered a mission near a Winter Lord and some lts and minions- probably about 50 feet or so from the mobs - and got to enter the mission to a chorus of ice blasts.

This is the kind of thing that rarely, if ever, happens to me on my other characters with various forms of stealth - and I am not talking about stalkers.

I'm also not talking about complete invisibility.

It has 40 ft stealth radius. I'm using it with SS (total 75 ft) and have no problem stealthing at all. IIRC, I read somewhere on forums that some longbows suppress stealth. Winter Lord is a GM and has 100 ft perception radius, if he got aggro'd on you, then surrounding him minions would aggro on you too.

Yep, it's stealth.

Thank you for the explanation, Nordblast.

It just feels like it's easier to draw attention with this than with Cloak of Darkness or Stealth. Weird.

And just to be clear, I do realize this is stealth and not Hide.

Technically, it is more like Hide than Stealth due to being able to auto-crit from it. But yeah, its stealth component is much less than Hide for Stalkers.

I found it worse than the PP Stealth or even a Stealth IO. Until I paired it with SS, I never felt like I was hidden at all.

It is probably just your perception.

Mask Presence - 40 ft
PP Stealth - 35 ft
Stealth IO - 30 ft

On another hand, standard perceptions for Minions/Lts/Bosses+: 45/50/54 ft.

So, with any of forms of concealment above, unless paired, you will be visible to the foes from some distance.

There are some exceptions though:
Rikti Drones, KoA, Rularuu while havining standard perception will ignore stealth completely.
Snipers have 149 ft perception
Turrets and GMs have 100 ft perception
Bane Scouts have 83 ft perception

Smoke Grenade 'em, and they shouldn't see you, either.

This is what I was going to say.

Widow stealth is broken up into two powers: Mask Presence and Smoke Grenade. With Smoke Grenade being auto-hit now, you really ought to be using it. Take it just after you take the more important powers (Maneuvers, IW, Foresight, Mind Link and Mask Presence).
