Decisions, decisions
Well, I went with Rad/Fire for now. While I am wishing I had a drain psyche and a crashless nuke, I'm actually surprised at how well it performs even without any IOs in the 20's. The AoE potential is incredibly useful on teams, and on a decent team, you'll be solid. A few mezzes from some ruin mages got me killed a few times, but even then, I was able to be surprisingly effective.
Also, since I'm pre-IO's and pre-combustion, I really am not having serious end problems yet, though that's due in part to slower recharge times and stamina being so helpful at my level. It seems to me that this particular combo could be fairly handy on a posi.

Im also betting on you throwing up a Mids build scared people off from the post. Its annoying enough comming in to give someone advice for a build, and all the sudden your mezmorized by a Mids map that you dont care to see right off the bat, then get a comment like the one above, making it seem you dont find it a worthy build without IOs,but are surprised it is?
Where you dropped as a child?
Ummm,i have a question...since when did a build need IOs to be playable?...

If you did a post-history search, you will find that I am very fond of IOs, and do enjoy tweaking builds and offering advice. You would also find that I'm generally a helpful person on the forums. (I admit I've had lapses in judgement)
My counter question: Since when did having a build with IO's become an issue?
if i remember correctly, the Devs pointed out that IOs can increase a characters abilities, but is not required to play the game, and the game will not be made more difficult because of them. |
Why do I own two accounts? Well, try seeing if you can play two brutes at once and have them both at full fury. It's just fun! (for a while then the intensity exhausts you)

appear that they will perform admirably well post-50 on paper.
I also enjoy the post-50 game a lot. I like to see just how 'super powered' I can make something. It's how I enjoy games like Morrowind, and I see no moral reason why I shouldn't be able to do something like that here.
I suppose having a breton with inborn 50% magical resistance wielding Cuirass of the savior's hide for 60% more magic resists, plus some enchantments to offer 100% sanctuary so I don't get hit with melee really breaks the game. But I find it fun.

I will have you know that yesterday I did a Citadel TF with a mix of only generic IOs and SO's on an Ill/Rad. You have misjudged me. Yes, I do enjoy trying to squeeze out as much potential out of my favorite characters, but if I did that with everything I owned, I would be very, very poor.

Who cares if he wants to use IO's? Frankly, I'm a little confused as to why you are so upset at this choice. Are you really going to condemn everyone that thinks maxing out their character's capabilities?
I'd go Rad/MM personally.
Your survivability will be better with Drain Psyche. Irradiate and Psychic Shockwave look (on paper at least) to be a devastating combo.
You don't really have to be THAT much more mobile. Just fire Psychic Scream as you're on your way into melee range. I would only use Electron Hazeto group stuff into a corner, if at all, the animation time on that power feels pretty glacial for what it does.

The OP listed a couple Mids builds to give folks an idea of what direction they want to take on two combos they hadn't tried before.
To the OP,
I have a Rad/Fire at 29 right now, that pretty much mows through mobs with a decent aggro holder, as I tend to really piss mobs off. I can also say that with just SOs, I burn through end VERY fast, but it's at the cost of fantastic damage.
I have a lvl 50 Sonic/MM/Elec, so I have experience with the whole having to jump between melee and ranged to make full use of the cones also. I end up mainly staying ranged, as the 3 main cones do enough damage that Psi Shockwave isn't really needed. I will jump in for DP though. :P
Either way, you can't go wrong from my standpoint.
Don't I know you???
If you find the OPs post annoying becuase he put a Mids build up then don't respond. In regards to IOs he asked simply stated that he was surprised at how well it performed without them. If you read that as "OMFG you have to have IOs" then I suggest you reread it.
One of the things that I've pointed out to new players is that this community is the friendliest and most helpful I've ever seen in an MMO... I guess there's an exception to every rule.
Also, if you're going to try to insult someone's intelligence at least make sure you spell it right.
Global @radubadu
Usually playing one of the following toons blueside on Virtue:
Cadler 50 WP/SS tanker
Radubadu 46 Fire/Fire blaster
Hell Runner 35 Fire/Fire brute
I'd go Rad/MM personally.

I'm wanting to try a slightly different approach to blasting - blapping. The problem is that I can't decide between Rad/Fire and Rad/MM. I'm wanting a blapper that isn't easy to kill and is a 'blast' (pardon the pun) to solo at x/8.
From the visual aspect, I would think Rad/Fire would look cooler than Rad/MM. From the min/max aspect, Rad/MM has a couple extra tools for survivability.
I've completed two builds now. I suppose I could level them both up and IO them out, but I'd certainly like some feedback before I start throwing inf and time at these. As you'll see, it looks like I've thought it through, but I'm still torn between these two builds.
I also welcome any build advice.
Rad/Fire Pros:
-More PBAoE potential with Combustion, FSC, Irradiate, and Consume
-Hotfeet
-Fire looks cool
Rad/Fire Cons:
-Hibernate the only source of healing
-Hotfeet is an endurance hog and consume only pops up every 80 seconds
Rad/MM Pros:
-Drain Psyche can negate the penalty of Atomic Blast
-Better survivability through Drain Psyche
-Better able to achieve higher amounts of global recharge
Rad/MM Cons:
-Having cones and PBAoE means I need to be more mobile
