doyler's back, also, what's good now?
lolUJL ROLL ME ANOTHER J.
@Psycho Jas
It's a completely different game from what you remember. Much much worse than what we had before, but still playable in some forms. Competitive PvP was turned into a total joke though, so nobody really takes it seriously anymore. People just do zone PvP and some kickballs. No serious teams, I think.
Bread get bun
@Psycho Jas
Doyler did you play on guardian? If so do you remember hexen kessel?
@KoolVirus
I rest my case.
Max - yea that's what it looks like and I've been noticing, too sad about competitive pvp though, guess that means I'll really have to move on over to freedom...
What's new as far as the flavors now? I figure fire/ blast has gone by the wayside, emp/pain/therm is still popular, melee is still lol, and mezzes are king now I hear?
kool - yea I've played there since I started, and of course I know him
also, barrier!!!

Elec/therm is the top dueling build, because it's insanely easy to run someone out of end and blues in a 10 minute match.
Buffers/healers are still useful, but not nearly as popular as before. Whereas before you could expect every third player in a zone to be some sort of buffer, now you'd be lucky to have 1 out of 10 be a buffer. Even buff sets often forgo their buffs for a pure solo build. The entire game revolves around damage now, so people try to maximize that.
Melee is still lol, but mostly because of how easy it is to play, not because it's useless like before. For example, a tank is capable of blaster level burst damage....from range. Not something to lol at. But people do still lol, because most melee players are just really bad.
Lastly, yes, mezzes are king. There's zero skill in using them though. Everybody does the same exact thing, because it's what works. First you knock someone down....then you use either a hold or preferably stun. Then they're dead, because there is no possible thing they can do the entire time. Essentially ALL skill is removed from the mez system. As a mezzer, you just use your 2 powers in the same order every time, and you get the same exact results every time. As a person getting mezzed, literally your only hope is that the mezzer is NOT on a coordinated team, and if he isn't, then you hope that you have enough time to phase or hibernate the split second his mez drops, because it's your only chance.
In summary, this game sucks.
Don't forget suppression for being attacked (lol) or using heals (lol) or Kins not granting unsuppressed movement (lol) or Sonics being complete garbage (lol).\
In short, they completely gutted the usefulness of two fairly common powersets and an entire AT (anyone remember when Defenders were actually good?) in order to make everything more fun for everyone. Unfortunately the side effects were making everything less fun for just about everyone except the bad people who get kills now and again and think they're good because the system dumbs everyone else down to their level.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Welcome back!

Doyler, hexen kessel moved to freedom so you'll probably see him there
@KoolVirus
SONICS ARE NOT USELESS.
they make it so that 7 members of your team don't have to run those pesky aura missions.
Yes it sucks now, but it's still better than the zergfest some other MMOs put up as PvP.
Just wait until PvP 3.0 in Going Rouge:Sarah Palin plays CoH
Infinity and Victory mostly
dUmb, etc.
lolz PvP anymore, Market PvP for fun and profit
my ff/elec is still a powerhouse right?

Max - really? they still have not fixed the placate proc or is something else funny with it?
Yea, figured they would stick around for atleast a little, I've always loved therm for dueling anyway
Is that because damage > buffs no or because no one is a team player anymore?
Why is melee so good/easy now, what did they change?
And haha, figured kd/ku would reign after the acro nerf, but that is ridiculous
thanks skyline
yea I talked to him once I got back, first person even :P he still plays on guardian too, but I'm figuring out which characters to move now lol
not many names I recognize atleast here so far though...

People don't seem to have buffers as often because Kins and Sonics were quite popular and those two sets got gutted into near uselessness. Every other buff set is a shadow of what it once was, and with PvP focused on damage spam these days there's not as much need for defensive support (offensive support and disruption are still nice, yes, but again there's that "shadow of its former self" thing). People changed to damage-focused builds because that's what works best under the current ruleset.
Melee isn't particularly "good" in an arena environment (it's essentially the same as it used to be if you turn off travel suppression and heal decay), it's in the zones you find them. Between TS, DR, HD, and the mez changes a melee character (especially Tankers and Regens of course) is often very difficult to kill solo unless they're played by a complete tard, and sometimes not even then. Adding an autohit 75% range debuff to Taunt helped as well. Melee characters are considered "good" or "powerful" in a zone environment because the I13 rule changes directly favor characters with lots of HP and powerful one-shot healing abilities (i.e. Dull Pain) because they're able to last longer with multiple attackers on them, plus some melees are capable of putting out Blaster-level damage at range. Yeah, nothing quite like that 3000 HP Tanker over there doing 1000 points of damage without ever needing to get into melee (I wish I were exaggerating, I really do).

Yea, for those of you that can even remember that far back I've been gone since i9? i10? somewhere in there.
If there is still organized PvP I want in, if not, what is still good to play (heck even in pve if anything new is fun), who is still good, I'm assuming I need to finish moving to freedom, and still build for hp, dmg, and rech I assume (obviously for damage toons)
