AV soloing with a /Regen...

...for those who've done it...how'd you build your /Regen?

Is it about stacking as much defense as you can?

Or can you go the +RCH route?

What about the one's who didn't use Katana/ or Broadsword/?

I use lucks...

If you want to avoid using those (cheap and freely available) you pretty much need tom invest a significant amount in defence, +recharge simply doesn't cut it in the long run.

You can argue over the merits of melee Def or Sm/Lethal Def, and at least in part that is down to the AVs you fight.

Well I have been trying to solo AV for some time with my DB/Regen. I when with +recharge and +def. All my Def numbers are around 25ish, IIRC. I have good recharge too could have better but not much without losing my def number. I have a hard time with AVs and I need to fight them a lot if I want to beat them and it is mostly luck if I do beat them.

I've done it with one build with massive +rech (180%) and almost no +def (10%) and another with high +rech (150%) with a substantial amount of +def (35% melee). The +def/+rech fusion build did a much better job.

As Umbral pointed out, you will do best with a mix of recharge and defense. I personally would go for recharge first, then defense but that takes a lot more attention to make sure you hit the heals at the right time. A high defense build will likely be easier, but not quite as strong (definitely not gimped or weak, though).

What where you using for attacks with the DB?

I went for 35% melee and probably around 80% recharge before hasten on my Claws/Regen.

I see a lot of talk about def and recharge. How much (if any) focus should be put on adding additional regen?

I just got my Kat/Regen to lvl 50 and I'm not sure how to proceed with him for IO sets. Most people have told me to go for recharge and regen...not so?

Don't put any focus on adding additional regeneration. If you want, think of it as diminishing returns since you're already swimming in it. A better explanation is that the higher your damage mitigation, the more you get out of each additional bit of regeneration or healing. A Regen has less damage mitigation than any other secondary, so benefits the least from additional regeneration. It isn't BAD for you, of course. I also consider it a nice quality of life improvement, and grabbed quite a bit on my Katana/Regen. But if you're looking for maximum survivability, extra regeneration isn't where you'll find it.

What Werner said. You have a 500' tall tower you want more space in. What's going to give you more additional space in the tower - 10' more vertical, or 10' more feet along one of the base walls?

Then realize that the space in the tower is meant as an analog for how hard your scrapper is to kill. Adding more +Regen to a Regen is like making that already tall tower taller. Adding defense and/or DR is like widening the base.

(Analogy shamelessly rehashed from other posters - Umbral originated it, IIRC.)

To put a numerical face on this, break out Mid's builder if you use it (and start using it if you don't!) and look at what you get for adding regen bonuses in terms of HP/sec. It takes a fair bit of Regen bonuses to add up to even a few extra HP/sec. If you can (for example) instead cut average incoming damage by 40-60%, it's probably going to have a lot bigger effect on your survival.

Thanks for the info guys...this will help me out quite a bit.

What's a good number to aim for on regen? I posted my MIDS build in another post and it's sitting at 633% Regen and only 31.3% Recharge.

***EDIT***Here's the build...I've changed it a bit from my other post...now at 613% Regen and 35% Recharge.

I know there are some strange power choices here...it's a mix of theme and playability. After I get this build working, i will concentrate on a more focused second build with an eye towards AV's.

My builds, which shouldn't necessarily be used as the basis for anything, run between 525% and 635% regen. To give you some idea of what that means in practice, that's the difference on my Scrappers of about 37 HP/sec and 42 HP/sec (52 vs. 62 with Dull Pain active). An extra 10 HP/sec sounds like a lot, but without some defense or resistance to hide behind while you regen it, it probably won't make the difference by itself. (Notably, the build with 110% less regen has a fair bit more +defense.)

My regen has some where around 600% ish +/- 10%. Try to shoot for 25+% positional defense and around 50% recharge.

The no-PvP/Purps BS/Regen build I have achieves 566% regen, softcapped melee defense, and 132.5% +rech (including Hasten). The no-PvP/Purps Kat/Regen build I have achieves the same rech and defense with 607% regen. The no limit DM/Regen build I have achieves 560% regen, 35.5% melee defense, and 147.5% +rech.

Honestly, where regen on a */Regen is concerned, I wouldn't really set a goal. Slot up Integration to the redzone, drop some token heal enhancers into FH (and Health, if you took it), and then take only what tangential +regen set bonuses you can. Passive regeneration only amounts to about half of what your build is actually capable of from an hp/sec perspective and, even then, it's not going to actually do much without a good deal of defense and resistance to hide behind.
