Trying to talk a friend into making a brute for pve ( strikeforces and such) ..she tells me well do you want me to make a brute that will tank ( take agroo) or damage

Then ask me whats best build for each

I have no idea

i imagine tanking brute is granite or wp or EA with em,superstenght, or dark as a attack

A damage brute i imagine is a wp/inv/da brute with em/ss/dark or electricity as aatack
in your multiple brute you have made which is best tanking which is the best damage
Questions
1- can there be a hybird
2 which is more useful in pve
3 fighting pool i imagine is a must but what about leadership

1. You can have a hybrid.
2. Your style of play will manifest this answer.
3. No need for leadership...unless your trying to add as much defense as possible with Maneuvers.

An Invulnerability or Willpower(w/ Taunt) Brute with softcapped S/L defense seems to be the perfect fit for what your trying to do.

Invuln has no Psi protection.(Although it does have Dull Pain)

WP has Psi resistance and defense through Mind Over Body and Indomitable Will respectively.

You can also add in Psi defense and resistance through set bonuses.

if you are going for a damage brute, you have to look at sets like fire armor and shields.

fire dark or electricity for dot..( + fury i hear its great)

so no one recommends stone brute ( granite)

Damage Brutes are generally Fire, Shield, or ELA. Fire Armor grants Fiery Embrace, Burn and a damage aura. Shield Defense grants scaling +damage and the most powerful AoE attack available to Brutes. Electric Armor grants a damage aura, increased recharge, and unlimited endurance allowing you to employ the heaviest attack chains without stopping.

Tanking Brutes are generally WP, Invulnerability, Super Reflexes, or Stone Armor. If you notice, WP and Invulnerability each have a skill that scales your survivability relative to the number of opponents that are nearby. Invincibility and Rise to the Challenge are what allow these sets to tank, and they gain scaling protection at the cost of offense. Stone has Granite Armor, which explicitly sacrifices damage and recharge for toughness. Super Reflexes by itself isn't a Tanking set, but becomes such with Pool Powers, IOs, and the general glut of positional defense thrown around in this game.

Dark Armor is an interesting hybrid. It can tank, but does such through controls and an unbelievably powerful self heal. It also has a damage aura.

Energy Aura too is a bit of a hybrid, having unlimited endurance like ELA, but no damage aura. It effectively has a scaling self heal that becomes more effective as the number of opponents in melee increase. It also has an unsuppressed stealth, allowing you to eliminate harder targets before their allies are aware of your presence.

granite is great for pure tanking but IMO its downsides have never been worth it.

dot auras are great for DPS but don't underestimate the shield rush thingy. the AoE damage on that is awesome.

is granite although suffers from recharge and toughness problems as good as tank granite
is it hard to build fury in granite?

it is close enough to tank granite. fury wise, if you are tanking well you will get your fury from being attacked so when you do, it will make up for some of the damage lost but I really don't think granite is worth it.

As long as you take the alpha strike and employ Taunt, you will have no problem building Fury. It can also maintain high Fury against AVs, but you will not have an attack chain as optimized as other builds. The recharge debuff has been lessened with the advent of IOs while the -damage is far less detrimental to Brutes than it is to Tanks. That's because a Tank is subtracting 30% damage from 95%, while a Brute is often subtracting 30% from up to 275%. It's proportionally a lesser hit for Brutes than Tanks.

For a tanking brute I would go for Dark melee, WM, Axe, Stone, with Invl or SR (I think the price stone armour pays is too high).

SS/Shield is a very strong damage Brute, and I like it since it doesn't work like the traditional damage builds. It has an unhealthy potential for damage buffs, and two fantastic AoE attacks. It's probably the best AoE brute, simply because I've never had another character who actually rewarded me for gathering up ten or twelve enemies in one space by letting me drop all of them in two attacks. Between Rage and AAO, Shield Bash is just over-the-top. With decent Fury, it does nuke levels of damage.

Elec/Shields also gives you a very nice duo of AoE, but you dont benefit from the joy of Rage.
Also, dont discount Stone/ElA. Stone does some crazy damage with a high fury bar, and electric armour will help with the End costs. It is a little light on resistance, though, so you really have to be careful. But, they added a self heal to it with the last issue, so that really helps.
