A fairly odd and annoying problem.
You said manual restart.
Is the computer downloading the entire game again, or is it just verifying all the files are okay after the crash? There is a difference.
If you frequently have this problem, you can always bypass the updater and run the game directly--but you are often better off verifying files against the main server, and you'll always have to check for new updates.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Post a CoHHelper report and a HijackThis log.
Offhand, I would suspect heat issues. Maybe give SpeedFan a try.

Edit: The damned updater works again.. Now it just sits at Checking Updater..
If I could download this entire game manually I would not have these problems.
Edited Edit: Life experience has made me persistant and now I have refused to give up, i'll likely become bored looking for something else to play.
Run and post logs from CoHHelper and HijackThis.

Either your CoHHelper wasn't copied over completely, or your computer doesn't have any registry information about your City installation, which explains all of your issues since that means your computer doesn't think it's installed.

Any idea why the launcher just sits at "Checking Updater"?

All of these ports:

TCP 2106
UDP 7000-7100
One of the following ports:

Seeing that you are using nLite, it's possible that the 'customization' of Windows is contributing to your problems.
Regardless though, IMO trying to get CoH to work on this computer is a waste of time.

CoH is actually a very graphically intensive game, and running with that very old graphics card (and at 1600x1200 to boot..), your gaming quality is going to be incredibly poor. That micro-atx motherboard only supports up to 2GB of RAM, and you are stuck with a 8x AGP slot, so upgrading really isn't practical either.

Actually it works quite well on this computer.. The ports don't make a difference but I managed to find a way around the problem.
I downloaded City off fileplanet and started it up after a short wait it began to download what was missing.
It seems to work now.
Edit: I have avoided the patcher's annoying problems but I still get the freezing problem.. I can live with that considering i've lived with it for the past year or two.
I download the game, install it, go to play, play for a random about of time, computer freeze, manual restart, attempt to play the game again, updater attempts to download everything despite it all having been downloaded already.
Assistance would be appreciated.
Note: The computer freeze only happens with very specific games, everything else is fine.
Edit: I've located the client on Fileplanet (European) as it should be after the patch, i'm hoping that this will provide a way to counter the problems i'm getting.
