MM Help for a Returning Player

Hello there. I'm returning to the game after almost 3 years. I have been doing a lot of reading as of late and it's amazing at how much has changed.

Mastermind was always my favorite AT and concept. I love the ability to solo as I often play on my own. Another thing I used to really enjoy was PvP in Siren's Call. From what I have read, pvp has changed dramatically.

Many threads seem to indicate masterminds are not good at pvp, but it seems it's because of their lack of mobility rather than their lack of survivability.

I myself am somewhat of a min maxer. I don't have a strong preference on primary or secondary. I would however prefer to stay away from robots and do enjoy secondaries that are capable of healing. I also am not afraid of a challenge and enjoy builds with "high skill caps" for what that's worth.

So I ask, which mastermind build would best suit my goals, solo pvp and solo pve? I understand I cant overcome mobility issues entirely, so maybe a build that will allow some control? I understand people slot to prevent knockback now, so that doesnt seem to be an efficient method. Or is it?

It's important for me to come up with a concept for the build as well, but I can probably think of one once I get some feedback on builds.

Thanks for reading and your time.

You'll probably be better served putting this in the PVP section instead.

Simply for the fact those people understand the new changes to PVP much better, overall, and your questions are essentially PVP questions.

As dismissive as it might sound brophog02 is correct. PvP is so far removed from PvE that most of us in the AT sections don't know much about it. If you want something that will be good in PvP you really need to talk to the experts in the PvP section.

Thanks for the replies. I have posted the same question there. The problem is, most pvp'ers don't seem to understand/play masterminds.

I would think that is because a MM isn't all that much use in PvP no matter how you build them.

I normally recommend people to make a good PvE build, and just put up with how it play in PvP, rather than trying to build for PvP when it will never make much difference due to AT issues.

Thanks Princess.

Could you expand on what you mean by "AT issues"?

I mean that the whole design of MM's is pretty much going against the design of PvP. Your pets do the damage, yet nobody ever hangs around long enough for that. Your biggest weapon is your secondary, but that is weaker than a corruptor/ controller/ defender, so you are pretty much reduced to a stay alive/ annoy the enemy role unfortunately.

I have found most PvP'ers know I will take a long time to kill and they just avoid me altogether!

Welcome back to the game after your long Hiatus! MMs can be extremely effective in PvP, played right.

You seem to want a team-oriented build with buffs and heals which (in my opinion) Is the best way to play a MM.

Lets hit the secondaries:

Pain Dimination: Is one of the newest secondaries. It's the villain version of EMP (although it really isn't) Great single target heals, with a moderate self-heal that also comes with a Regen aura that can make you and your pets almost indestructable. Excellent for teaming, and any Dom or Corr will love you if you throw Pain Bringer on them and WoP.

Pet Primaries: Bots should be your first consideration as they are extremely durable and completely ranged. Meaning they will stay within your regen aura radius as well as your WoP and aura self-heal. Second could be thugs.

Thermal: Same as corrs. great Debuff, Great heals, great shields.

Pet primary: I prefer thugs on Therm. but really it's up to you. Remember however, if you aren't strictly dueling, you are going to want a ranged AT in PvP.

Poison: This is more for dueling to be perfectly honest.

pet primary: Thugs/zombie/bots in that order.

So, what are you looking to play?

Thanks for the advice Tokyo.

To be honest, since I just came back to the game, I will be spending most of my time solo for a while, but I want to be an asset to a team if I get the opportunity to join one.

Sounds like I want my cake and to eat it too, huh.

Anyways, I have created and played probably 6 different prim/sec combos already. I would say my favorite at the moment is necro/thermal.

However, I am concerned that since they are not ranged, will ranged AT's just blow me up without being able to touch them?

Am i right in thinking that? If so, I will probably end up going thugs.

Necromancy pets are extremely squishie in PvE. If you don't mind resummoning your pets constantly, they can be a lot of fun. I rarely use my Necro/Poison in PvE. If i'm teamed or solo I tend to use my Thugs/Dark Miasma or Bots/Pain. However, Necro/Dark Miasma, is an excellent PvE and PvP setup as you have enough control in your secondary to mitigate damage on your pets.

If you want a solo as well as team oriented primary I'd take Bots, thugs or Merc..here's why..they are ranged. And they won't get in the way of the melee ATs.

For a solo secondary Traps, storm, Dark Miasma, Pain, Therm(with the exception of storm these are all great team oriented secondaries). I would not recommend storm for team oriented play. There's just too much KB.

Secondary..Traps is a whole lot of fun on
