what's an sg?
vg wut?
oh gooood onee barrier i missed you
actually, in all sincerity; i had talked to divine about this before.
running an SG/VG at this moment is a huge waste of time. the devs said we were getting changes with going rogue, and we all know what happened the last time they took a look at pvp.
my prior experience has been that it takes just about as much time to get a vg up and running and competitive, as it takes for the devs to bring out a huge set of changes that make the good competent pvpers quit. i'll cite i13 and i11 as examples.
i11, the devs banned half of the ladder from going into test while beta was happening (VoRI disbanded their arena team), and a lot of the other changes resulted in half of ujl leaving for AoC.
i13, well, we all know the deal.
first and foremost, at this moment, the list of acceptable ATs in a high end match is ridiculously small. 5 stalkers with impale/sharks. why? DR caps on resists. until the devs bring back the old resists system, organized team pvp will consist of the following:
1. recruiting 10 guys.
2. telling them to roll spines/wp stalkers for 3 weeks.
3. impaling/sharking people in matches.
i'm not willing to partake in that at this moment.
the second reason is what i mentioned above; if you think Going Rogue is not gonna make people quit, then you're betting against a track record of badness.
well that sounds intresting.
i mean it's not all the team pvp that i miss. I still miss the rivalries, drama, and people making fun of other people.
in my opinion i think CoH became a Hey let's hold hands and be carebears kinda thing.
But that's just me, and im bad so whatever

Barrier is horribly bitter. Things are looking up. The devs are not touching pvp until after Going Rogue. That leaves us with at least 4-5 months and i doubt there will be any drastic changes akin to i 13. Screw the ladder. It would be great just to have separate groups running around and having matches vs each other(for the competition, drama, whatever). I would aim for 5 v 5s. Try and see if you can get a team set up cyclo.

GR has a couple minor tweaks to PVP. Larger, more complete changes are planned for sometime after that. |
The major thing we want to do is add a reason to PvP; which means tangible rewards and actual competitive events. |
Separate groups: quite a few players are in Unsuppressed right now. Split yourselves up and run "internals" (if that's what you want to call them) if you're hurting for that much action. Fact of the matter is, there's not enough of an arena population left to do anything more than kickballs with any regularity, and I don't see that situation improving.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
I agree.

drama is also a bit over-exaggerated. drama is all in fun. but it requires a few heavily diplomatic leaders which are in short supply. in ujl, shini kept relationships with DR civil, allowing us to keep practicing with them even when modoom and (to a lesser extent) me, were generally busy making fun of them. with renegades, massive molestation of our pvp butts kept us in line. with gmw, shini and bloody kept everything civil, while vert, myk and i talked massive amounts of dung about each other in AC.
i can only think of maybe two people in the current community that might have the clout and "respectability" to achieve that (mirage mage, silit).
haha I would so like to see mirage be diplomatic
Wtf?
We've actually been talking about people branching off making their own SG's and what not. But people really dont want to put in that big of an effort with the current stage of PvP. and frankly its making everything that much more boring. KB's are either stacked, or just raw damage. 2 stalkers with sharks can just about kill someone, now including maybe one blaster and consider the target dead. 2v2's are worthless as well because people cant pop out enough damage anymore to kill a emp(talking about blast/emp or any type of /emp combo). From the looks of it anything that is less then 4-5 people per team is really worthless. And even then it really doesnt give you a whole lot of choices with whats acceptable and what isnt. And with how much PL'ing and just farming in general for influence and what not, people just dont have the time to put into making a new char every so often then have to purp/PvP IO it out, and take 10 thousand years on accolades. People are sticking to their main damaging Zone toon and bringing that to the KB's because its the best choice to farm PvP IO's in a zone, but with how borked the drop rate is its stooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooop ppppppppppppppppppppppppiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid ddddddddddddddddd. Idk nothing is really worth putting the time into with this current system, now once GR hits we'll all see about the changes that they decide on. If they mess up more then they already have. I bes be seein sum of des ma fookers be getting the ban stick themselfs.
Congratulations, you've discovered the flaws of a system based entirely around damage. No reason to bring Sonics or Kins means you suddenly free up two or three spots which get filled with Blasters or Doms.

I love how ppl are crying about spines/shark stalkers now...*jk
But yeah, maybe i am pessimist, but from past experience about how good devs can "fix" and "balance" pvp i would rather await another half of my toons becomming totally worthless (and have to farm for another respecs just to srip stuff and PL new toons OVER AND OVER AND OMFG OVER AGAIN) and bann waves of course. I just wish devs simply never really touched pvp. Sure, we could try to organize something like lol ladder, sg's, w/e but i am pretty sure devs are already working on another ultimative plan how to get rid of pvp'ers<INSERT SARCASM HERE>. Just watch.
edit: oh snap i just found this from first time my post was ever deleted: "Threads that make groundless claims about NCsoft or any of its employees acting in collusion with or granting favoritism to any group or player will be removed without notice."
HEY PROVE ME THAT DEVS LUV PVPERS PLZ
BB, you can record me on vent anytime ....(there goes the respectability)
While the ladder times were fantastic, it was a massive commitment if you wanted to win and I personally dont have the energy or motivation for that currently. A ladder looks a long way off regardless.
There maybe enough for a few seperate small groups but whether there is enough that want to do more than casual kickball is another matter. Things have been going really well recently but like devine said, PvP was reset and it is still in its infancy. I`m sure if the kickballs stay as active as they have been a few cliques will start to form and perhaps they will eventually create their own groups.
Shenanigans
LotD - JaL - POWT/SMD - SoCo - AJs

Spec god bless him drove the new ladder but it was still a min max issue. It came down to who could do the hold as spike best. Infamous and Gun tried to do different teams to win but could never really get any other viable team to work. It got to a point where some teams would not scrim because it was so lopsided. (15-0 etc...). And this was 5v5. I have done a few 8v8 KB's on freedom. They can be a lot of fun when even but they are rarely even.
Once people realized the 5v5's were all the same teams..they lost interest and people left for aion or champions...I think the only team left to fight were PE, DOA and Renegades and then Most of Renegades got perma banned..
if people want to start new ladder fights I'm down..I can probably get a team together but as far as running stuff or being sg leader again..I think those days are loooooong over.
Don't forget that when the new ladder was still going, there was no option to disable heal decay so all the matches were run with DR off, so there were like two or three ways to get a kill unless the other team's Emp was AFK or something.

Mage and Rodge are on my team. That is all

3 well timed sharks will **** anyone up unless you're running 5 katana/regin teams (i'm gonna go kill myself because the mental image is a horrid).
actually we never used shark spikes . the anim was too long and with two emps on a team you could heal through it ( and this was pre nerf nerf). When we did the initial tourney Silit's group ran all stalkers .. I thought they would try a 5 man shark but it never happened.

trying a sharks spike under those settings would have been the 5 man equivalent of silit hitting lunge instead of AS.
Hi guys, ive been back for awhile, kickballs aren't that bad.
Wish we could have more 2v2-5v5's though.
What SG/VG's are still left?
