Never solo-ed an AV, but want to try.
DM/SR or DM/SD built for +def (to softcap for positional defences) then +recharge should both be good places to start.
To get a feel for it before spending vast amount on IOs, I would suggest taking the DM/SR and trying as you are riuht now, using a single luck to softcap yourself. Renewing it as needed, that gives you a 20 min window to get one down.
After getting the hang with inspirations, you can advance to the no insp type set-up

The 50's you have should be more than capable of soling AV's without Ins/temps.
If you have endless supply of influence however, I hear that DM/SD is the way to go.
There's nothing wrong with DB. It's one of the top DPS set with high enough rechrge.
Like iggy said, they could all do it, but the dm/sr would be the easiest and cheapest to get there. The dm/sd would be more powerful if you've got bottomless pockets.
As others have said, you probably want to go with the DM/SR. However, if you want an even cheaper build that can solo AVs you may want to level up a Fire/SR. You could probably get the influence for the DM/SR faster than leveling up a new toon though. I guess it's just the altitis is me acting up
Don't make a Dark/Shield because after playing it at 50 with a cheese load of influence invested into the build it makes everything else feel not so super powered...lol

Thanks for the inputs guys. I don't play the market that well to have bottomless pockets. I'm playing the DM/SD right now. He's almost 45, but with the funds not at my disposal that might not be my best route. None of you like the Kat/WP? The thing that sucks about DM is the lack of AoE support, but with Soul drain the Shield charge is great. Working on getting the recharge up as often as possible. But what should I focus on with the DM/SR as far as set bonuses go?
Kat/wp is fine. I have one I'm working on right now. Currently at 47 and I've already done a +6 RWZ challenge. Haven't taken him out for some AV's yet, but I don't really see much of a problem on that. A heck I'l probably take him for a spin before he hits 50.
Out of the sets you listed I'd probably go with Kat/WP, but that's just because I don't like either DM or DB ...
For DM/SR, you're looking to get your defense to 45%, and then you want recharge and I'd say hit points. And that's the problem - recharge is about the most expensive thing in the game. You can put together something with lower recharge, but spamming Siphon Life as often as possible in your attack chain is part of your high survivability, so it's not going to be optimal with lower recharge. Still, it'd probably be good enough.
DM/SD suffers from the same problem - really expensive to get the recharge, but to add to the complications, it's a lot harder to soft cap.
Katana/Willpower should be fine, and might even be pretty cheap. I think you're mostly looking for defense bonuses there, and recharge isn't nearly as important, so you won't have to kit yourself out with purples to make it work, even if I'd at least recommend them in Gambler's Cut along with the Achilles' Heel.

Recharge isn't that expensive, depending on the set that you're looking at yes, but there are a lot of decent uncommon sets with 5% recharge, as well as cheap rares with 6.25 and 7.5% just need to be smart and have patience.

I think he probably means it's expensive to get large amounts of recharge that would require purples and LoTGs....I came back after a week and a half break though and found I had two LoTG: 7.5s bought for 15mil each

Hey all. So i have a few questions about some builds that I might be able to solo an AV with. My questions are where should I focus my set bonuses if that makes any sense to you.
Lvl 50 Dm/SR
Lvl 50 Kat/WP
Lvl 44 DM/SD
Lvl 40 DB/SR
yes of course the last two aren't up to 50 yet, but the questions still apply. Also, I hear bad things about dual blades going up against AVs. Do you think it's doable?
