Superhero... 102? (A thought about the past)

Hello there, true believers!

I've always wanted to say that.

Anyway, hello there! It's your good ol' Uncle Blarg, the author of the immensely popular ol' thread Superhero 101! (Blarg may or may not be exagerating about how popular his ol' thread was)

I know that many of you were dissapointed at its slow and fatal demise, and was wondering...

Does anybody here still care?! Does anyone remember those good days of teenaged, angsty supheroes? Of superpowered, drug addled gangs? Of Golden Eagle Highschool? Of vampire with a "thing" for the undead? Of Circle of Thorns madness? Of the supernatural? Well?! DO YOU?! >:0

...

Anyway, I was thinking. Would a Superhero 102 work? And if not in the old format, how could we make it work? Instead of an RP, we could make it a "forum" for short stories centering around the students of Golden Eagle. That sounds funnish.

...Aaaaaand that's all I got! If it seems a little bit off-center, it's because I just grabbed my keyboard and started typing! No thought was put into this post beforehand! Which may be painfully obvious!

So, gimme your thoughts!

Essex could always get her school uniform pressed again. I think it's a grand idea.

Yeah, the fact that it seemed to go along the timeline of excruciatingly slow school days may not have been the way to go. But the roleplaying aspect, with other people, made it a ton of fun...hm.

Maybe the plot can all take place after classes, and if something happens to someone we don't go through a whole day, just beginning again after class the next day. "Boy X was kicked around by his nemesis, Nemesis, and mysteriously wasn't in class that day. Lightning Girl and Chumby went to investigate after school the next day." or something.

It was fun having teachers as well; and this way we won't have to have them each teaching a class...they can just be around for extracurricular help (bowchika--wait, no, Mrs. Robinson are you trying to seduce me!?).

I'm rambling. X3

Blarg? You're still alive? Okay, stand right there don't move.

*loads shotgun*

...but yeah, I could give it another shot. It's been on my mind ever since the other one died. [EDIT] And yeah, Essex' suggestion about having the RP occur outside of class with maybe passing mention of classes and what occurs in them. Try that format and give it another try. I'd *kinda* like to start where we left off though rather than have to restart all the introductions again.

*aims*

I wasn't involved in the old one at all (If it hadn't died before I finished reading it all then I would've been!) but if anyone was to start a new one I'd join i a heartbeat.

Sorry Leo, if we do this, it's aaaaaall starting over again. Same place, same gangs, same school, and same teachers. But the students, and pretty much everything that happened in the first thread would be thrown out the window. After I left, I never really got around to reading what I left behind, and that's a loooooooooooooot of things to go over just to keep continuity errors out. >_>

I mean, I was actually working on something at the time, but looking back, my "story line" was extremely immature and self centered. It is irrelevant.

We could still use the same students, though. You would just have to pretend that we know nothing about each other, or have any idea that the old thread ever existed. We can say this is an alternate timeline. Or superman turned the earth's gravitational field around again and we all went back in time. Or something.

But anyway, I'm glad to see you guys are still around and interested! Anybody else care to chime in?

That is an issue for me considering that SH101 was my first RP thread and therefore contained a heavy amount of continuity for my main character. If we start completely over as if none of it happened, I'd basically have to do most of what I did in the other thread over again. I mean, the major part of Ian's backstory is he loses his katana and tries to find it using his wooden sword in the meantime only to learn he's better off with what he has and cuts the ties he has with his old sword. All that happened (and the last part was going to happen) in the old thread...

...granted, now that I look back at the old thread I could manage telling that story better. But still, I'm telling a story I already told...

...and all those ties previously made are just gone. I mean, when Essex came back to the boards she made a reference to the mood bunny (truthfully, I forgot all about it) which seemed like a little tie between those characters. It's hard to just make it all go away. And I never liked that alternate reality/timeline mess unless it actually plays into the main timeline/reality.

....but that all said, I'd be willing to try anyway. I enjoy my characters enough to try retelling anything I had planed.

On a tangent, what about Supervillain101? I think you could give that another go if done right. But rather than Recluse's evil-Mc-bad-bad school, why not just a highschool on the Rogue Isles. Rather than learning to save the world, you're just trying to stay sane on a dog-eat-dog island. Training up to be Recluse's lackey is probably the furthest from most's goals.

Oh, and this gun has a hair trigger...

*fires at Blarg's head*

Personally, I think a better idea would be to have the new thread start off a new term at the school. Thus, all the plots in progress can be safely thrown out under the assumption that they'd have been finished off in the intervening time, but established character development doesn't have to be erased.

O.o

My favourite American roleplay thread is to return? Excellent! And this time, I can join in. I like the new term idea, when's enrolment?

I would love to see this going again. I've got the perfect character for a school-type environment too - well, hopefully anyway. But yeah, I'd be interested. One question, though:

Why? Do you remember everything that happened at your school in real life? I know I sure don't.

Some Dude: "Hey, you remember that unforgettable event last year when X flipped the Y and Z spilled all over, so Q slid into W and Mister L went nuts and tore down that whole deal?"

Me: "...No."

I think it'd be fine to just set this one year later or something. Heck, actually we could just start it in the present, which is already several years removed from the old thread.

Question.

What was Superhero 101? Are only teen supers allowed to enter, or is this one of those "everyone is mysteriously a teenager without noticing" things? And if so, are villains allowed to attend?

Your character could currently be a teen attending highschool, somehow one of your characters is mysteriously a teenager without noticing (if that's what you want) or I guess the past of a character of yours when they were in school.

But then you didn't have to be a student. You could be a teacher keeping the little'uns out of trouble or something.

Although students that are 'less than heroic' can attend which provide friction between characters, do remember the school was established to teach the meta-human youth of Paragon how to 'save the day'. This could change, however, and just be a safe haven for superpowered youths to get educated.

Ok, pretty much what I expected. That said, I LIKE this idea.

Lookie what I found. Just in case people want to read some of the old thread - the best way to get an idea of what it was about, IMO.

So then, when's this gonna start? I've snagged the perfect roomie for Essex (if she'll have me ), and find myself itchin' fixin' to get started.

To those of you who suggested a "one year later" dealio. My character, Kyle would technically be gone by that point, since he was 17 in the last thread. >_>

I would be starting a new person, but if you all really want to, you can keep going with your old characters. But remember, I would have no idea of what had gone on for the last several hundred pages of roleplaying. So yeah.

Also, I have a very, very, very busy schedule, so I would REALLY appreciate it if somebody could be a co-DM of the thread, if not somebody else being totally in charge. I just don't have the time to do everything like I did last time.

And Pious, it's so awesome that we have at least one fan from across the pond who was a fan! That's so cool!

Last but not least, I would be willing to start the thread some time after Thanksgiving. But we really should decide if we are going for a one-year-later approach or if we're throwing the old thread out the window entirely.

I like the one year later idea; you can start a new character if you like, and you can keep your old character if you like, too.

Plus, I have an ....interesting plot shift for Essex when she hits 50 in game. Whenever that turns out to be; I don't know why I level empaths so slooooow. <.<

And Ace, I'd be happy to save you a spot, Roomie! >

Alright, well we already have a few things down.

1. We are free to use the old characters, or start new ones if we like.

2. And we know we're not throwing out the old thread, we're just having all this occur one year later.

3. We're using a new storyline, since my old one now makes me vomit a little bit.

4. And we're not doing what we did last time with the classes. Preferably, we're just making all the roleplay happen AFTER all of the classes, while referencing them by saying we have papers to write or just have some very specific class-oriented roleplay if necessary.

Great! Now that we have that down, let's get to the next few subjects at hand...;

1. I still need someone, hopefully someone who was familiar, or participated in the last thread to help me out! My Real Life work load does not allow for me to be the DM every day! And no-one wants me to drop out again from exhaustion, now do we?

2. I am planning on having two threads. One IC, the other for OOC and general discussion. I plan on using this thread for planning, discussing with people not in the RP, etc. I may even have a third one for the history, a link to the old thread, the rules, and some bios of the characters. And any artwork, if we have any. Plus any other things people need to read before joining the thread.

3. The rules may or may not need altering. Suggestions?

4. How many people are we going to allow in? I remember that in the last one we had to have a cap on how many people got in, because it was getting kind of ridiculous. Let's figure this out beforehand, to lessen the hassle.

5. I'd really like to have a couple of maps. One of the school, and one of the "city zone" of Lakeview. If any of you artsy people have an inclination to do that, please feel free! Or I can just whip one up sometime later this month. >_>

Sounds good to me. I'm not sure we really need a 'DM', though. We can probably get by by just trading plots back and forth like in most other RP threads. It generally works out well enough, and it makes people feel better about being involved in the thread too.

Also, I'm fervently against placing a limit on how many people can join. Yes, I know it can create a hassle, but leaving people out just ain't right. We can always just say 1 character per person if things get out of hand.

That's about it from me. Oh, wait, I remember now - why wait until after Thanksgiving? Go nao.

I think an 'overall' DM/GM (which is it now?) is important so no one goes breaking any RP thread rules. It'd be great if no one does but just in case, it's good to have the thread master (TM?) make a decision about what should be done. But a good TM would try to use democracy every now and then but having to vote on everything may get tedious.

Anyway, I'll help out but I'm not good at it (I don't even think I've done it before). I'd like my previous position as record keeper, if at all possible

Is this a question? But anyway, you could transform this thread into one of those but I'm just the kind of guy that hates wasting space.

"The rules may or may not need altering. Suggestions?"

Standard rules, perhaps? To mitigate the need for a DM/GM/TM, elect characters of authority to certain players so decision would be delegated by said characters but still leave veto power to the DM/GM/TM.

I like the idea of limiting characters to 1 per player until we figure out how many will apply and then perhaps 1 additional character later?

Power levels, I'm not sure how/if to limit this.

Like a cityscape rendering? Aaah, I'm not artsy enough to do that with confidence.

Could try contacting Seikon about the wiki, wouldn't be the first time a thread's been added to the wiki by request. She's away from the forums at the moment though so might be hardish to get ahold of.

Wow. A wiki. I love the idea, but have no idea how to do this. I would probably do what Rebel Scum suggested and

And do you mean just a page on a roleplay/CoH wiki? Or an actual, totally Superhero 101 wiki?
