I'm making a female hero named Masked Fox and I'm trying to decide which would be better claws(flat blade that comes out of her gloves) or Martial arts.

Which do you think would be better suited?

She's a natural scrap who has no mutations other than heightened reflexes(SR)

I'm not a fan of the flat blade, so I'd go with Martial Arts.

But this really shouldn't be in Suggestions and Ideas.

Coversely to Sam, I am a fan of the flat blade.

In addition I find claws an overall 'better' powerset than MA for my own playstyle (my wife is the opposite)

Claws/SR is a very good combination, a little slow starting but once you get to SOs (which is a typical issue with defence sets) it really gets going.

MA/SR is probably a little faster out of the blocks with the early attacks, but doesn't get its one AOE until fairly late on.

The Claws and Martial Arts sets play differently and the moves look different. Claws is fast and furious. Martial Arts has slower but more powerful moves. Claws has two ranged attacks (one's a cone knockback). Martial Arts has a couple of stuns. Claws has Follow Up instead of Build Up. Both sets are pretty good.

I suggest taking a close look at the powers in each set, and at the graphics for each move in the character power customization/tailor screen.

I don't dislike Claws, just the flat blades. With all the slashing that takes place, the blade's edge ought to be orientated along the plain of the forearm that goes from the back of the hand to the front of the hand. The flat blade is situated perpendicularly, with the bulk of its edge facing to the left and right of the hand, and we don't have any left-right or right-left swings in Claws. I could work with just about every Claws option OTHER than the flat blade, because you can really only stab with it, and slap people across the face with the flat side.

Essentially, the Flat Blade has a different orientation to all the other claws. So if it comes down to Flat Blade or Martial Arts, I say go Martial Arts because I wouldn't go with the Flat Blade.
