Help me understand threat

Posted

I have been doing attempts against GM´s and something is not right.

I understand that defenders have a 0.5 threat modifier.
But.. i´m running a chain of Shriek, Scream, Challenge to establish a decent amount of threat. As soon as i plant Acid Mortar the go haywire and start running around like headless chickens.

Only behavor like this i have experienced is Req(runs away and deaggros) and Vandal as he is hard to hit in overload and starts t run away from the mortar. Even though he finds time to run up and hit me with total focus when i press challenge.

What am i doing wrong?

It's easy to send AVs/GMs running around like headless chickens. I just think that, it's a shame I am not on an all blaster team doing something similar to fear kiting.

Try testing combinations of effects by leaving different powers out so you can narrow things down. I believe you do know what all your powers do so I won't go down the road of looking into them myself.

I have no doubts that you have seen this page:

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

I like the AI as it is. It's advantageous.

The thing is i have been reading up on traps corrs and mm´s but i havent seen any of them talk about this problem.
Its the mortar. they are happy to stand in the poison gas cloud but as soon as i drop a mortar and it lobs it first grenade things go bad, fast.

Its kind of like it has an afraid effect.

EDIT2: I sent a pm to castle 1 month ago but he hasnt replied yet.

If you use the mortar on its own are you getting the same thing? I'm doubtful but I haven't got a 50 "Hero" Traps yet to test it.

It was the mortar on its own when i first tested a month ago against kraken. I just tested eochai(kraken wasnt in perez) again and its eeems the combination of my sonic atttacks and mortar made him run.

I dunno anymore. I´m gonna see if i can fit a GM into the Chumbucket.

Acid Mortar does have a pretty strong scatter/afraid component, but on my Corr/MM that's usually solved by a heavily slotted Provoke (or with an immobilize against AVs)

-10000.00% taunt on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable -200.00% threat level on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable

I got this detail from Acid Mortar. I am testing right now for a no run effect.

I think its a bit sensible that the NPCs move from it. It's an aoe debuff. It's like the NPC says "I am a target of a debuff AoE, so I best stay away and/or clear of my friends".

I´m in the other camp that GM´s should stop being wusses and running around SQUEEEK SQUEEK. Seriously i hit Deathsurge with boxing on my brute and he started running towards a drone.

I could agree with GMs, they don't have to behave like puny NPCs, especially if they have no buddies anyway.

It's not advantageous when you're relying on location-targeted damage, debuffs or soft control and foes run out of it.

It's debuffs. Read the thread I linked.

No it doesn't. It has no Afraid component. It does have 10,000% resistance and 100 protection against Afraid.

I think its AI or it could be AI. I like it. Watching a GM run when you are trying to solo it may well be a pita and conceptually a ?. A GM should look at TRTs Mortar and laugh at its weak debuffs as one person attacks it. In teams it's unlikely to happen as someones presence would keep the GM there. I'll find one and test it.

Acid Mortar only applies 3 effects to targets:
  • 20 * 0.45 Toxic damage over 20.00 seconds
  • RES(All Types) -20% for 20s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
Effect does not stack from same caster
  • Defense -0.2 for 20s
Effect does not stack from same caster

It does not apply Afraid, Avoid, or Fear.

Numbers are nice and everything and I'm sure you must be very good with theory, but in practice Acid Mortar has a pretty strong scatter component. Wether it be a result of directly applying the afraid effect OR scattering indirectly through DoTs and debuffs is irrelevant, the end result is still the same.

Anyways like I said before, with a well slotted Provoke you should be able to keep them from running away.

I have said nothing about Acid Mortar causing scatter. The last time I played with Traps was months ago.

However, Lumi said "[Acid Mortar] has no Afraid component.", and you replied with "Have you even played a trapper?", suggesting you believe it does have an Afraid component, which is factually incorrect.

For shame on the lack of initial taunt control TRT I'd of assumed that was well covered straight up.

I have little experience of presence pool taunts as I think they're poo on account of not being autohit, having such limited range and duration. I would say that they should ideally have a 10:1 ratio in duration to recharge.
