Robotics - Should I be leaving my Protector's on Defense?

Just wondering if I should have my Protector's set to Heal Mode and let the Drones and Assault Bot on the Offensive?

Any other tips appreciated.

I was fine but I've died more in the the last level, since getting upgrade, to LT's and Bosses than the previous 33 levels combined :/

Protectors don't really have a healing mode, they just dish out the heals and bubbles when they are needed so there is nothing wrong with letting them fight.

What secondary are you and we might be able to help with a few more tips? Personally I just put all the pets in BG mode and grab some aggro though.

I've got bots/traps and the key to my strategy is leaving everything in defensive, jump into the fray before my bots, and letting bodyguard mode keep me alive.

By level 32, I was an invincible army of death. Before that, I was a slow moving steamroller.

What I said should still hold. Bots/dark is the only thing I would consider more powerful than bots/traps. Leave all of your pets in bodyguard mode and jump in first with darkest night and tar patch. By this point, everything is attacking but can't hit you. Even if they do land a few hits, you've got 75% damage resistance to everything and a heal. I would drop the personal attack because I don't think they do enough damage post-26 to even matter. Everything in /dark except black hole is worth grabbing.

Judging by your comments about leaving pets in aggressive stance and how you keep dying, I assume you don't know about bodyguard mode at all. Please read that link. You'll thank me later.

This. Bodyguard mode makes ALL the difference, IMO. Before I read about it, I could handle groups of 1-2 mobs - MAYBE 3 - but larger groups spelled death. Now? I drop a group of five purples without blinking. I stand and laugh while the purple hero wails on me in a safeguard mission, ignoring my pets completely. It's unbelievable.

EDIT: With newbie slotting, no less. I recently got a level 50 ToT group and ended up with a mediocre purple drop (confuse? sleep?) that I sold for ~25mil. Before that, my record holdings were about 2 million inf. So no special procs or anything interesting - just common IOs and a couple of cheap pet sets.

I'm new-ish. Again.
@Kahzi. Pinnacle, mostly.

Dumb question and mini thread jack... how do you do bodyguard mode? Is it just follow aggressive? I just recently got into MM's and see this phrase, but not sure if that's it or not?

Follow defensive.

(I have read that stay and goto also work if you are in defensive?)

I already answered that here. Just read the link.

Well, I said it was a dumb question.... lol sorry, I think I somehow overlooked the last part of your post there. Thanks for pointing it out though!!!

Totally understandable. I was replying to someone else and you couldn't have known that the answer to your question was there without reading the whole thing. It was just easier for me to hit multiquote rather than find the link again.

EDIT: And it's not a dumb question. Sorry to be cliche, but the dumb question is the one you didn't ask.

wow, hate to be such a newb but damn Bodyguard mode just made me feel like I am unstoppable. Just cleared 4 missions at +5 without a hitch (lost 1 bot due to a room glitch)

Thanks for the heads up on that!

I made it to the high 40's before I realised the power of bodyguard mode, so you aren't alone lol

Just to chime in with a related question. From what I've read, this does not qualify as bodyguard mode, but just wanted to see what you guys say.

Bots are in Defensive, Attack my target. While in this state, you're not in BG mode, right?

Edit for pet peeve, thanks

I have gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, Keep me here!

That is correct, you're not in BG at that time. If they are in follow, goto, or stay, you will be in BG mode. As soon as aggro is lost, your pets will return to follow and then you will be in BG mode.

Sorry, pet peeve.

There is no need to have Protector Bots in Defensive for them to use their Heals/Bubbles, but it's not a bad strategy. It will keep them from grabbing the aggro, and make them less likely to charge into melee. (Although nothing but Passive will actually stop that )

Protector Bots will fire in Defensive mode, they just won't fire first. They also will use their heals and bubbles in Aggressive mode. The only time they WON'T heal is if you put them in Passive mode. This stops them from using any powers at all. There is no "only use heals and shields" mode.
