A joystick question...
It's a serial port.
If memory serves me right, there is in fact an adapter you can get. Serial to USB to be precise. Where you would get it, I haven't a clue. Most likely any computer shop in your area would carry them. Although I don't know how available they'd be anymore.

We'll see....
It's not a serial connector, it's an analog joystick connector. It's designed to work with the joystick/MIDI ports found on older sound cards. There are "joystick port" PCI cards that you can buy for desktop computers (they're hard to find, though), but I'm not aware of any adapter you can use with a laptop.
Well frick. It's never anything simple with me.
I found this on the 'egg. Now, would this work and if so, would it interfere with my Sound Blaster Live 24-bit card that I already have?
Hello again all. Got a non-Co* related question for ya.
I've got a Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro joystick from WAAAAYYYY long ago (for frame of reference, it came packaged with a copy of Mechwarrior 2). Problem is, there's no port on my current comp that it'll fit into. I've really got a hankering to replay X-Wing and Tie Fighter, and don't think any new joysticks will work as well as that thing did for them.
Is there an adapter or something that I could get that'll work for it? I'm not sure what 'type' of connection it is, other than it has a total of 10 pins w/two rows. 'Top' row (based on lettering up/down) consists of 8 pin holes but only 6 actual pins. 'Bottom' row consists of 7 pin holes but only 4 pins. I believe the shape of the connector would 'trapezoidal'.
Yes, I know this question is highly technical and littered with industry terminology...
